OT: Scenalyzer feel good story :-) ...

Just a word about a happy ending story with Scenalyzer.

I am a fan of this capture software since a long time and use it to shoot 90 % tapeless since 3 years. It's an incredibly stable DV capture utility (i must rather say "digital video recorder", cause that's the way i mainly use it) .

Some times ago, during a one shot interview shooting, i put myself in trouble when attempting to record with unlimited file size option on a FAT 32 HD (dumb!). I got 60 min. of unreadable, corrupted files in 2 Go chunks. No video file repair utility or editing soft ever worked to rescue the footage.

In a desesperate last attempt before erasing everything, i sent a mail to Andreas Winter (Scenalyzer creator). I got an answer a couple of hours (!!!) later from Andreas: "keep your files, i may help you!"

The day after, i got the latest software build by mail: "the attached version of sclive should make you more happy. Try the repair tool..."

Unzipped it, runned it, and bang! 15 minutes later i got all the footage back on track! That's customer support my friend...

Many thanks again!

(btw, i am unrelated with Scenalyzer or Andreas, just a happy user...)

Just out of curiousity, what is the latest build you received from him? Version date?

Thanks.

He also helped me by making a small adaptation that makes Scenalyzer work really well with the Workprinter (for transferring film to video).

Send the guy some more money. People like him deserve not only praise, but also $$. I can't say enough good things about him and his product.

Hmm ..
I am also a user, but the website appears to only have a September build.

There is an unpublished Scenealyzer update with two changes. Even better - a manual is likely within a month.

Here is part of Andreas Winter's reply to me:

http://www.scenalyzer.com/sclive20051129.zip

The repair-tool is under File / Tools /

There are only two major changes in this version to the public version on the website. You can use the newer version if you want, you may also publish the link. I have planned to publish this version along with the manual in the next month.

with kind regards,
Andreas Winter

2 or 3 years ago I suggested to Andreas that he add the option to crop stills by a different amount on each edge (my old Panasonic footage had and still has a black stripe down the right hand side).

Bang, in the next version the feature was in. I love this guy and his program.
