"When in doubt, re-read the thread. Someone is getting 2160. Maybe Youtube checks the connection and automatically cuts back?"
I went back and checked and I'm also seeing the 1440 res for the "Skydive Dubai 2012" video. I had done the screen grab of the 4K res when viewing the "Elysium Trailer." So, I guess the Skydive video isn't available as a 4K playback, they probably just sourced it 4K?
The "Vancouver City 2 Time Lapse in 4K Ultra HD" video is definitely 4K -- it just jumps off the screen.
I watched Elysium Trailer at 4K using Chrome and it was smooth as silk, no buffering, crystal clear. I have FIOS Internet and Speedtest.net says I'm getting 58.36 Mbps download and 35.80 Mbps upload. :-D
But how can I be watching 4K on my 1920x1200 computer display? Was it still a 4K stream that was re-sized to 1920x1200?
must be type and how much compression is used. I get a solid 16mb download here at home...
Elysium, smooth and no buffering at 2160 (4K)..... BUT, that clp is filled with tons of black areas, and fade to blacks like trailers do, so I suspect it affects the "compression" greatly.
The Dubia Skydive is not 4K so thats out (prob filmed in 4K)
The rest, play, look great, yet buffer and stop repeatedly.
I'm watching on a 1080p monitor but I doubt that affects the downloading where I see the gray bar move, then stop, move and stop.
I started watching the Elysium Trailer "at 4K" on my laptop more than twice with the following result. Oh well!
BlueScreen

I guess to the video adapter, it's like cramming 4K into a 1600x900 bag.
