That would be a good idea - because then we can test that on our machines.

actually i converted it in Handbrake software from HEVC 2160 x 3840 @ 60fps to AVC 1080 x 1920 @ 30fps

because HEVC 4K is not playing smooth but AVC 4K is working smoothly.

this is the original footage HEVC 2160 x 3840 @ 60fps

https://www.swisstransfer.com/d/1b793d07-585f-4a83-bc40-775a747d33e4

also when i import it into a portrait project it automatically stretched to landscape. not like Match Output Aspect thing something messed up like this.

that's why i have to convert it. to AVC 1080 x 1920 @ 30fps

@iEmby Hi, on initial trial of your footage I get the stretch to 16:9 when added to a 9:16 project when Yes is chosen when asked to match project to media. But if added to a 9:16 project & No is selected it plays without flashing. I have to choose No in Pan/Crop when added to a 9:16 project because it loads it as a 16:9.

My other UHD 16:9 / 9:16 footage doesn't try creating proxies (bottom left progress bar I presume is proxy creation) so why yours does I don't know, generally I don't need proxies so in this vid I click Cancel but I tried it again & let those proxies build, that changed nothing, it was the same as in this vid.

--------------

Out of curiousity I added it to Magix Movie Studio 2024. I get the same stretched into 16:9 video.

Wolfgang S. wrote on 4/30/2024, 5:52 AM

My laptop (see specs in my signiture) is able to playback the original HEVC footage UHD 60p with the preview settings best/half with the full 59,94 fps.

No flickering here.

I have also tried to simulate your settings - by changing the project settings to 25p, and by including a text event. But I was not successfull to see your flickering.

Maybe an issue with your external AMD GPU?

Does it also happen if you changer Options/Preferences/File I/O to your i-GPU (I assume that you have your standard settings here, what would be the GPU? But I am not sure what you have here).

More, I do not understand why you run your project with 25p? Is it because you wish to combine it with other 25p footage? This file has 60p, at least.

Concerning the stretch, you should also check the pixel aspect ratio in the event properties.
This needs to be set to 1,0000 (Square). That wasn't the case for me.

Former user wrote on 4/30/2024, 7:20 AM

@VEGASFlorian Yep, this is what I get, changing it to 1.000 corrected the stretch problem.

Former user wrote on 4/30/2024, 9:29 AM

@iEmby I was curious about this when I looked at your MediaInfo, why is there is xyz, is this a lock rotation in the phone camera setting or something? Also there's aspect ratio 0.562.. ? Source stream size, do you upload via a streaming service to your PC somehow.?

Yours was created with a Samsung S23 Ultra, the same as my phone so I created one of my own which loads into Vegas without issues, (In Vegas mine shows pixel aspect ratio at 1.000), If you can share your phone settings I'll try it?

ok i got it.
my client's media file has pixel aspect ratio 3.1605

i need to change it to 1.000 from media side as you described not in project setting as i was trying before.

thanks alot sir.

@iEmby I recently Reset the phone camera from the option that is at the bottom of the screen when Camera settings is opened because I was trying to fix the audio offset issue that I posted about in Off Topic, I don't normally change many if any of the settings but I was fiddling with all kinds of things so in the end I just did a reset. Like I say it prob just went back to how it was before I fiddled with it.

I think the only thing I might have changed is from AVC to HEVC to suit your video, I can't remember which is default.

There's too many settings to mention so all I can do is this screen recording.

-------------------------

Interestingly this screen recording shows an aspect ratio of 0.466, the Size & width are 1080x2316, I presume that is the screen size as I know the screen isn't 16:9, (I don't have an app that tells me what aspect ratio 0.466 is)

It comes into Vegas without problems at the right size & the project sizes match,

& the rendered file from Vegas that I've uploaded above has the same width & height, no problems there.

Your video is 0.562, but the width & height are UHD 2160 x 3840.. ? & 'Source stream size' still puzzles me, this to me implies it came from somewhere, whether that was in a transfer from the phone or within the phone .......🤷‍♂️

set wrote on 4/30/2024, 5:24 PM

I'm comparing this media, along with your other shared media, also from someone else's DJI Osmo Pocket 3 Portrait Mode video that shows stretched when put to VEGAS Pro's timeline:

And these 0.562 Display Aspect Ratio numbers are there.

And checking on my standard video cameras (EZ-E10), also there, one in usual landscape shooting, other in portrait mode shooting:

But having different metadata tags.

actually with mathematical 2160/3840, it results the number as 0.562. but I can confirm the media from this forum page, the sunset 4K portrait, is stretched, along with DJI Osmo Pocket 3 portrait mode, but the other portrait media that is just 1080p portrait, shows ok.

that 1080p portrait was converted not original thats why that is ok.
when i told to my client, he said it will keep H264 not HEVC from now. may be this is cause for that stretch error..

@iEmby Purely out of curiousity this is the sunset vid in Boris's Mocha Pro standalone & Silhouette standalone, the video loads ok but both are painfully slow on initial playback,

I've never seen a video do this before.

@VEGASFlorian @Wolfgang S. @set so this is a little time consuming if this type of issue comes.
i thing VEGAS should do something for it in next update

like auto match pixel aspect ratio with project properties when imported.

as you guys can see above other people trying this is causing same issue.

so may be next update or vp22 will solve this issue.

You can select all 'wrong-detected' media in Project Media, then right click Properties and set manual as 1.0 at once.

Well, not perfect way, but that's the best we can do for now,

However, agree we are hoping this issue can be solved by the VEGAS Team, even though they have so many other things to fix as well.

My comments -

Interestingly this screen recording shows an aspect ratio of 0.466, the Size & width are 1080x2316, I presume that is the screen size as I know the screen isn't 16:9, (I don't have an app that tells me what aspect ratio 0.466 is)

Your video is 0.562, but the width & height are UHD 2160 x 3840.. ?

I've never had to deal with those fraction type numbers, so after reading @set's comment "actually with mathematical 2160/3840, it results the number as 0.562" I looked into it. Couldn't believe how simple it was - Width ÷ Height (Later realised the / in that comment is a divide sign not just his way of showing 2160:3840) 🤦‍♂️. Off Topic I know but thought I'd share, I now have knowledge 😂 👍. If that's wrong pls let me know.

@set @VEGASFlorian

this video playback and render is smooth but that colors messing in preview window and that green line is not looks good on a professional video editing software.

That's a 34fps video... unusual.

Anyway, hopefully decoding issues like this will be fixed soon. Otherwise try 21.208 or 20.411?

Custom PC (2022) Intel i5-13600K with UHD 770 iGPU with latest driver, MSI z690 Tomahawk motherboard, 64GB Corsair DDR5 5200 ram, NVIDIA 2080 Super (8GB) with latest studio driver, 2TB Hynix P41 SSD, Windows 11 Pro 64 bit

Dell XPS 15 laptop (2017) 32GB ram, NVIDIA 1050 (4GB) with latest studio driver, Intel i7-7700HQ with Intel 630 iGPU (latest available driver), dual internal SSD (1TB; 1TB), Windows 10 64 bit

VEGAS Pro 19.651
VEGAS Pro 20.411
VEGAS Pro 21.208

Try the
VEGAS 4K "sample project" benchmark (works with VP 16+): https://forms.gle/ypyrrbUghEiaf2aC7
VEGAS Pro 20 "Ad" benchmark (works with VP 20+): https://forms.gle/eErJTR87K2bbJc4Q7
