I just received a response from Sony support on this. It does show that the issue is with the aviplug.dll, they know it's a problem, and they're working on it:

"Thank you for contacting Sony Creative Software. There is an issue within the 9.0d version of Vegas Pro regarding the aviplug.dll. Our engineers are aware of it and are currently working to resolve it for the next release of Vegas Pro 9. The options are, 1: uninstalling Vegas Pro 9.0d and re-installing 9.0c. Or, 2: waiting for the Vegas Pro 9.0e release. This should be released shortly (although no specific date has been given)."

It's interesting that they didn't mention replacing the dll file as they did for a solution before 9a. I just don't see myself going back to 9c while the solution we're using is working in the interim until 9e comes out.

i just upgraded to 9.0e from 9.0c (i waited a little bit because the known issues with slow loading of projects)
it is the same on two computers (one with win7 64bit and one with xp 32bit)
projects load very very slowly (somtimes hours)
no cpu usage, just stuck, after loading it takes another while until the thumbnails in the timeline are rebuilt and vegas gets responsive)
there are only avi-dv (batch converted in streamclip from quicktime files to avi-dv)
this could be the problem......but worked for me for years!
on 9.0c on the same machine (32bit on win7) no problem

so i tried this fix - downloades it from the link in first post
avi.dll (x64 Built 9786) works fine!
avi.dll from 9.0c (x64 Built 10485 extracted install directory for 9.0c - had no original backup) works fine!

thanks!

but i have to say i am a little bit tired of fixing dlls!
i want a rock stable vegas version like 4.0e or 7.0e where i had to worry about nothing.
so i spend hours waiting for files to open, and until i got to this fix here...and a the day was gone....

I am running 9.0d with Neoscene. Vegas was loading extremely slow until I followed "Sony's response" with the dll direction. Vegas now loads extremely fast and I am very pleased with the overall performance of 9.0d. I see no need to update to 9.0e for fear of rocking the apple cart.
