pre-Render only transitions

DMT3 wrote on 8/1/2022, 12:26 PM

I have used vegas a long time, but one of the shortcomings of my old hardware is previewing transitions. Most of the time I can just do a selective prerender, but in this case the project is long so I would like to pre-render all transitions. Is there a script that can do this or has anybody found a way to select transitions only and pre-render?

Scripting could certainly render all transitions. However, a script can't "Pre-render". It would have to render and then manually add the output to a new track - more like a "Render to new track"

I don't know how to write a script, but since Pre-render has a keyboard shortcut, couldn't that be triggered by a script?

I'm not going to say "no" but that's problematic. For example, how would the script know when the pre-render finished in order to proceed to the next one. You could wait "too long" and it will take forever to finish. You could not wait long enough and some won't get done. You could pop a message on the screen requiring the user to press OK when ready to go to the next one. There would just be too many issues to worry about.

I understand. When I do a pre-render, the rendering screen comes up and then goes off once the pre-render is finished, so something is triggering this. If that function could be read, then that could trigger the next selection. But again, it is out of my realm.

I know it was probably differrent tech, but remember when DV was the main format, Vegas knew to only render segments that had been altered (effx, transitions, etc). This is what I am looking for but with new formats, this is a lot harder.

If I had a script that would select the transitions, I could play with a macro that would select-render-select. Might be interesting to try. The script would have to select the NEXT transition and would then be run with the cursor starting at the beginning of the timeline.

A while ago I requested this script from the HOS developer @wwaag and he kindly created the script.

The script "RegionFromTransitions" creates regions where transitions exist. Then you must render the regions using Batch Render with the codec of your choice and finally add the videos on the timeline at the points where the transitions are located.

If you have HOS or Vegasaur this process will be much faster as the entire process will be automated.

The script RegionFromTransitions can be downloaded free in this link: https://tools4vegas.com/regions-from-transitions/

@joelsonforte.br okay, that sounds interesting. I have Vegasaur and I can also program macros in my Shuttle. Maybe the combination will do what I want. thanks

@DMT3

You have vegasaur this is very good. Use the script RegionsFromTransitions and with Vegasaur use the Quick Render option and be happy.

Vegasaur works great for what it does, but still not exactly what I need. I will contact the developer and make a suggestion. I want it to just do a selective pre-render. As it works now it adds the files back on a new video track so that when I get ready to do my final render, I will need to either mute or delete that track. If I perform it more than once I assume I will end up with multiple tracks to mute/delete. I will see what he says.

If you use an intermediate codec, you won't need to mute or delete the files as it's a lossless render and it will still save you precious time on the final render. Your suggestion is good, I would also like selective prerendering to work natively at various points and not just in the loop region as is currently done.

Your suggestion sounds very interesting - would be nice if you could inform us here about the result of your research.

@walter-i. I sent a message to their support, but have not heard back. I will post here if I do.
