Hey Oldsmoke, what Vegas version you using? Under the "Apply Deinterlace Filter" I don't have "Wait for vSyn". I have "Use Color Profile".

"I see both fields but interlaced and that with the filter on."

But that filter only affects the "Preview Device".
That can be connected by Firewire, HD-SDI, HDMI or DVI.

To see your vision on that Device you have to enable it by clicking the monitor icon at the top of the preview pane.

The internal will display interpolated when it has to scale, turn off scaling and you should see both fields (blend).

I don't see blend on the internal, I see interlaced. You can see all the lines on the internal preview window if you enlarge one of the Pics.

"I don't see blend on the internal, I see interlaced."

I use "blend" to mean both fields at once.
Interlaced means fields shown sequentially which most computer displays are incapable of.

I guess the conclusion then is that the "Apply Deinterlace Filter" only effects the external preview device and can only do "Blend" but not "interpolate" and the internal Preview Window will always show interlaced or blend as you call it when unscaled and switch to interpolated when scaled... I hope I got that right.

If so, it is a bit strange and certainly not documented well or not at all.

Don't know about it being "strange", it is after all part of a NLE and keeping CPU use low is important. It's worked well enough for me for ten years in which time I've come accross the odd oops other editors have made on other NLEs because they took a different approach.
The documentation though, Yes, it needs to better explain exactly what is going on. This whole area is a constant source of issues for new users.

I started off using Media Studio Pro for my D8 tapes. The software came with the DV-Raptor card from Canopus but was eventually bought over by Corel. At that point I switched to Vegas Pro 7 and I have been using every version ever since. I doubt I will ever change to anything else, I tried FCP, Edius, Avid and Adobe all of which I find cumbersome and old fashioned in their approach. I learned Vegas 7 in a day to the point I could do as much as in Media Studio Pro. I find Vegas intuitive with a certain logical approach to the workflow.

Hey Andreas, thanks for all your work on this. I'm now (still) inclined to think Vegas has issues with PAL HD footage stored as fields - interlaced or p. but that might be the price you pay for having a full screen preview monitor without a special card. Like you I came over from Media Studio Pro when version 7 became unusable - tried all the others and started using VP8 when they put the default timeline in the right place - I think a lot of the success of Vegas was due to the failure of MSP.

I dont think Vegas has an issue with PAL footage, HD or otherwise. I do however believe that the current situation is not ideal with regards to monitoring whether internal or external. I used PAL footage from version 7 until 10 when I was still living in the PAL lands, Europe and Asia. I moved to the USA Jan. 2011 and still used my HDR-F7E for events but noticed that I always got flicker when shooting indoors. Only last year did I make the plunge and sold my FX7E to purchase a Z5U which solved the flicker issue but it also has a ton more features. I prefer it over the NX5U anytime as features such as shot transition and interval recording are missing on the NX5U. Lens and sensor are equal and I use a MRC-1 which gives me tapeless operation with backup. Anyway, on and off I go back into my PAL footage and I see no difference in the way Vegas is handling it. Keep in mind that PAL is just only 50i or 25p versus 60i or 30p which has less temporal spacing between frames. I am inclined to buy a BM Intensity Pro and replace my second GPU (560Ti) and see how that does with a HDTV connected. Computer monitors, especially LCD/LED just don't do interlaced. Sony's LMD2451W apparently does do 1080 60i but I just don't have the money for it; not yet.

As time goes by I actually got a reply from SCS and it seems that there is a bug afterall.

Thank you for contacting Sony Creative Software.
