Preview screen zoom in & out

Former user wrote on 1/11/2022, 4:10 AM

I know this has been mentioned before but i want to bring it back up,

I'd like to be able to zoom in on the preview screen but most of all i'd like to be able to zoom out so i can see control points that go off screen, or be able to place them right at the edge,

you see in this pic, the top right & bottom left points have gone off screen with no access to them, 😒

It's hard for the Current Vegas Team, you're giving them a hard time. They must have tried to do it, but they couldn't finish it.

@Former user  ... +1. Zooming the timeline has been a feature request for Vegas Pro many times over the years but sadly it seems like an impossible dream that it will ever be implemented. Once you get used to off-screen nodes (and preview window zooming) in, say, Mocha (BCC) or Mocha Pro, the lack of that function in Vegas Pro becomes an even more frustrating omission.

Should you not edit the points in the pan/crop window instead of the preview window?

Even if, with which filter can you access them in the preview window?

@xcxz-a That's a harsh comment. What knowledge do you have to support your comment "that they must have tried but couldn't finish it"?

@Former user It's a very reasonable request. Suggest you add it here https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/vegas-pro-19-feature-requests--123432/?page=13.

Years ago a long discontinued consumer editor that I used had what you are asking for, and it was very useful. You also use Magix products so of interest do MEP and VPX have this feature?

Former user wrote on 1/11/2022, 4:31 AM

@Dexcon Yeah i searched this & saw there were a few posts, so as i say I know this has been mentioned before but @xcxz-a there's no harm in giving the Vegas team a nudge 😊

@Yelandkeil This is a Bezier mask in the pic, but this is also an issue with other fx's that have control points, like lens flares etc.

Former user wrote on 1/11/2022, 4:53 AM

@EricLNZ I'll add it, i haven't looked on that list but i'm sure it will already be there,😊

Yes MEP allows zooming using mouse wheel + ctrl, I've had MEP from 2004-ish, zooming in & out may have not always been there but as far as i can remember it has been an option,

I mainly use Vegas because the features in MEP are a bit limited but it plays 4k well & exports really fast, it only costs me about £40 each yr to update so i just keep it up to date,

I might be wrong but out of all the editing software i've got or tried, Vegas is the only one that doesn't have this feature.

The two other editing software I use also, indeed have this very handy feature to zoom in and out in the preview, which becomes very handy to observe minimal changes when applying FX. As what I understood from an earlier discussion about this feature, this seems not be possible to implement into Vegas.

Former user wrote on 1/11/2022, 5:34 AM

@3POINT Yep i read the link @xcxz-a posted & the comment from @VEGASDerek, Like i say I know this has been mentioned before, it sounds like they're stuck with old software that would need a serious revamp to implement this, hopefully one day soon they will have to rewrite it, so I guess well have to just wait & see,

Dexcon wrote on 1/11/2022, 5:41 AM

Thank you @xcxz-a for linking that Vegas staff comment - so it looks like preview window zooming will never happen, well not in the foreseeable future anyway. At least it can be achieved via 3rd party plugins like BCC/Mocha Pro if you've got them. And with regard to pan/crop masking in Vegas Pro, I've long found that feathering masking can often result in a grey 'blur', not an integrated 'mix' of colors, at the line of the feathered mask which thus visually highlights the mask rather than making it 'invisible'. I recall commenting the same thing on the forum around 10 years ago.

@Dexcon I choose Mocha Pro a lot for masking, but it really slows down the playback in Vegas, it can reduce playback down to single digits, Dynamic ram & Prerender can take a long time too to get it to play well, can't win, it's swings n roundabouts 🤷‍♂️

This is a simple mask on a jpg, playback @ 5-8fps

Dexcon wrote on 1/11/2022, 5:58 AM

@Former user  ... true. But what I do is to have a separate veg project to do all those SFX via BCC-Mocha/Mocha Pro, render them and then import the rendered files into the principal project. The playback and render delays in that principal project are thus gone.

@Dexcon Yeah that's what i do now, i'll break the project down & work just on those bits like you say.

Here's that 0.10sec clip with a solid colour behind, playback went down to 3-6fps Draft (Auto)

& rendering 🤦‍♂️😂

Dexcon wrote on 1/11/2022, 6:20 AM

Adding to my previous comment, I do the same separate veg project for other VFX like Neat - and similarly separate export folders for audio FX via iZotope/Sound Forge Pro/SpectraLayers Pro. For the most part, the principal project only has Vegas Pro FX added plus some NewBlueFX particularly ColorFast 2 the latter of which doesn't seem to lag playback performance.

This is indeed a very well needed feature..... When doing advanced motion graphics and visual effects within Vegas, this feature is critical !
