Preview window still black

This I've posted before, but have been off sailing etc so now back and despite SCS tech hopes b521 has not fixed this issue.
In v10 (and previous) when click "preview device preferences" get a window where device: "windows secondary display" is shown. In v11 I see only "windows graphic card", where displays are identified as "2" for op monitor and "1" for my preview screen (other way around in previous versions). I believe the rest of you people happily using V11 see the same configuration as in previous versions. Of course this problem makes V11 useless to me.
SCS seemed to think the new build would help (Q asked when using b511) but I think that advice was a matter of faith rather than intellectual judgement. They didn't comment on the differences in format that I see for "preview device". Of course they have the matter classified as "solved" so I'm now enjoying the long delay involved in renewing the request for support.

Do you have previous versions installed alongside V11? I think if I was in your position I would uninstall all of them and reinstall V11.

Maybe try updating graphics card drivers too before you reinstall. There are new Nvidia beta drivers coming out regularly and they seem to have helped V11 users in general.

Maybe also try swapping monitors to different sockets on the graphics card to "shake things up".

agree with nick in as much as trying the latest nvidia (beta) graphics driver 295.51.

if i remember it was only in vegas you had this anomaly?

Thanks for thoughts. Yes, only V11 exhibits this problem. I see that SCS has changed the format of the preview preferences window, so that difference from previous versions is OK (not peculiar to my problem).
Nick, uninstalling versions that work on the off-chance that V11 will start working seems to me a bit like bungy-jumping; an act of desperation (or it would be for me!). Swapping the outputs from the card I'll try again (can't remember how that worked last time).
The odd thing is that I have the monitors set up by nvidia as "1" for the op console and "2" for the preview display (in multiscreen set up). V11 inverts this identity, which seems to be related to the problem (but I've no idea in what way). Changing which is the mainscreen doesn't change V11 behaviour. Previous (and working!) versions don't do this. I guess there is an internal flag/setup somehwere in Vegas, but if its accessible I can't find it.

Serena,

This may have nothing to do with it, on the INTERNAL preferences, there is an option to INIT VIDEO ON STARTUP. Mine is set for FALSE. I have no clue what this does, but it could be related.

Hi Dave,
Where do I find INTERNAL preferences?
I'm pretty convinced that the problem lies within Vegas 11 because all other versions of Vegas work as normal. Vegas 11 is the odd one out. While I've posted the question into support (that is taking forever, as usual) I've discovered that New Magic Aust provide tech support to Vegas and at least they do interact. So far it has been all about system hardware (drivers, connections, display settings, etc) rather than thinking there just could be something in Vegas 11 (not unreasonable, since Vegas 11 works for them).
I've suffered this problem since early V11 and have continued work with V10, but now (back from enjoying myself) it seems time to attempt to get the issue sorted.
People won't remember, but it all began, long, long ago, when I was testing the NewBlue titler. Suddenly the titler preview wouldn't show and I had to try to work only in the titler interface. SCS said upgrade the titler, but that didn't help. Subsequently (or perhaps similtaneously) the Vegas preview (on external monitor) showed only black (I can't remember precisely). I was busy on other projects and put the problem aside. Most recently (i.e. before Christmas) SCS said the Vegas upgrade would solve the problem, which it hasn't. Of course since I was on holiday the problem was marked "solved" and I'm grinding down the queue once again (unless New Magic solve it).
So you see why this pops up every now and again. I work using v10, then think about using V11, then ask questions, and go back to using v10. But sooner or later there will be a v12 and I'll still be stuck.

Where do I find INTERNAL preferences?Press and hold the shift key and then open the Preferences dialog as usual. You should see a new tab called "Internal."

Resist the temptation to start changing things ...

Ditto Nick.

SCS advise on us using the latest GraphCard drivers for VP11. I can only guess that earlier versions of Vegas were more forgiving.

However, if this is installed, and the issue still remains, then there's a need to look elsewhere.

Yes, I already have the latest driver. And I'm rather disinclined to change parameters that I don't understand. That leaves a great deal that I prefer not to fiddle with!

Nick, you have been leading me up the garden path! Very unkind ;-)

The problem with Photoshop has been solved by rolling back my nvidia driver to 285.62 (the first upgrade after installation of the card). This has also put life into my preview screen and fixed NewBlue Titler Pro.

Interesting really, because I too tend to expect later versions will be the solution to whatever bug. Now I just have to wait for Cineform to fix GoPro Studio Premium (known bug).

Not quite so simple! Ticking "use GPU acceleration" in Vegas 11 gave me back all the problems (photoshop, preview window, NB titler). System tells me I have the latest GPU driver installed (unexpected) and re-installing driver 285.62 fixes problems.
