Pro Res MOV files are pixelized on import on Vegas Pro 15 & 16 & 18!

jredmond wrote on 10/12/2018, 2:50 PM

I use Convergent Design Odyssey 7Q to record 4 cameras and also record the switched output into a ProRes MOV file. When bringing it in to either Vegas Pro 15 or 16, now when I look at the footage with the monitor fully expanded I see the video is pixelized. When I render it out, it is pixelized.

Here is the info from mediainfo

Using Vegas Pro 15.0 built 361 and 16.0 build 261

Any suggestions would be appreciated. James

same for me, when I render is pixelated. vegas 15 last build.

I tried rendering about 20 times with various configurations and formats. It was always pixelated. I finally make the monitor very big and I could see the pixelation. The original footage is not (except in Vegas). I think it is a bug. James

It seems to be another mxhevcplug encoder bug. One workaround is to disable mxhevcplug so that vegas will read your file with another encoder.

Go to C:\Program Files\VEGAS\VEGAS Pro 15.0\FileIO Plug-Ins and rename the folder mxhevcplug to mxhevcplug.DISABLE

Open Vegas and drag the PRORES file to timeline.

When you are finished editing and render you file, you undo the change in the mxhevcplug folder to return to the original default.

Joelson-Forte, well that fixed it! I guess I need to report it so the developers with hopefully take a look at it. Thanks, James

Same result for me. Please leave the file online so we can link the developers to it.

There might be a better way to enable/disable that decoder within the Vegas settings... hold shift while clicking on preferences, then do a search for that decoder's name in the "internal" tab. I haven't checked myself, but it might be a cleaner solution than renaming files if there is access to it in there.

Systems:

Desktop

AMD Ryzen 7 1800x 8 core 16 thread at stock speed

64GB 3000mhz DDR4

Geforce RTX 3090

Windows 10

Laptop:

ASUS Zenbook Pro Duo 32GB (9980HK CPU, RTX 2060 GPU, dual 4K touch screens, main one OLED HDR)

Thanks! I tried your suggestion.

I changed the mxhevcplug folder back to it's original.

When I do a search in the internal tab I do not find anything close to mxhevc. So I think I will have to rename the folder when I need to use it with these mov files. Thanks again for the suggestion. James

I am still having a problem with pixelation using mov file. Had this problem going back to version 15. Currently using the latest version of 18. Any current suggestions. When I rename the folder as mentioned above, vegas crashes and will not open the file. Any other wortkarounds? Thanks. James
