Problems with common codecs in Vegas 11

I love Vegas but why does it seem to have so much trouble opening files using common codecs that have no problem in other applications. I have a normal H264/AVC file Sony Vegas just won't open. But if I try in another popular editor it works just fine! What gives Sony? And of all companies, I'd think Sony would be the most competent in opening H264/AVC!

Some high profile h264 functions were not supported in Vegas 11 because they had not been implemented yet.

If you managed to successfully complete even one project in Vegas 11, you did way better than me. I went through V11's complete life cycle without being actually able to use it.
