@Richvideo

Are you using Topaz Video AI or Topaz Video Enhance AI?
And which version?

Jøran Toresen

Topaz Video AI and Enhance AI are the same thing, I think at some point they just shorted the name

I have the most recent version

It's different software, Topaz VIdeo AI was built from the ground up, it replaced Topaz VEAI, but it is only now that Topaz VAI competes favorably with Topaz VEAI, and many are leaving VEAI 2.6.4 for VAI 3.2.2. Because they started over again, the current release is still alpha/beta-ware. If it were a game it would be called 'Early access'

Ok. Are there any significant improvements between mercalli pro v4 plugin and mercalli pro v5 version plugin? Is this upgrade Worth of it?

Mercalli 5 plugin can stabilize on the fly, means no need to analyze first, which is faster in use but the result is also less. As with Mercalli 6 SAL, with my kind of footage I don't see a difference in results between 4, 5 or 6. Means the results are all good.

Reyfox wrote on 4/20/2023, 6:10 AM

@3POINT, your footage looks fairly stable to begin with, so I wouldn't expect much, if any difference between the different versions. I have V5 Suite and V6 SA, and honestly, because of the way I shoot and how I've learned to "stabilize" myself, a lot of times, the Vegas stabilization works just fine if I need stabilization. With the use of my DJI gimbal and monopod, even less need for stabilization. But having Mercalli (I bought it really inexpensive) is a tool I have "just in case".

@Reyfox I have to refer back to old shaky recordings for testing and using Mercalli. My newer recordings are all made with monopods or gimbal support and mostly don't need (Mercalli) stabilisation.

I have also some handheld 2160p25 recordings (7 years old) which benefit also from Mercalli CMOSFIXR which is another advantage of Mercalli against Vegas Stabilizer.

I almost never used Vegas Stabilizer since I have Mercalli 4 plugin and that I only used for those old handheld recordings.

Indeed Mercalli is a nice tool to have in case of, but those cases are becoming rare nowadays.

Yep! When I used Vegas stabilization were one of my older videos. I was trying it, and if it failed, I have Mercalli. It worked fine with the footage, and I was content with the results.

I asked yesterday ProDad to write me when they are going to release V6 plugin for Vegas with AI support, but they replied me in not clear way. They wrote me: "next time", but when? I don`t know.

I think that ProDad Mercalli v4 in some cases put floating look on the video. I think that gyro stabilization gives better results in such and other cases. Do you share my opinion?

What do you mean by floating look, CMOS wobble? Mercalli has a separate plugin for fixing that, called CMOSfixer.

marcinzm wrote on 4/29/2023, 3:35 AM

I don`t know how to explain it, but I mean floating/waving video on the corners/edges of the video. Do you understand me now?

A small stabilisation test of an original handheld recorded 2160p25 clip with Vegas stabilisation, Mercalli 4 plugin, Mercalli 6 SAL and Davinci Resolve (free) all with default settings (Mercalli 6 SAL with turbo CMOS correction). Uploaded in downscaled 1080p25 due to limited upload capacity. Make your choice.

Also my opinion, remarkable is also that it's the fastest stabiliser of all tested.

Thanks @3POINT for posting the stab comparison. Agreed, Resolve wins by a country mile - the difference is jaw-dropping IMO. I've had similarly excellent results using Resolve to stab phone video - no other stabiliser (Merc 5 & 6 SALs, Moca Pro, or VP20 which was runner up using the Expert mode) achieved the Resolve result. Extraordinary!

I think that gyro stabilization using Catalyst Prepare is much better than stabilizing by VP or Merc 4 5 & 6 and can be similiar compared to Davinci Resolve stabilization feature. Of course I mean the files which contains gyro data - I mean Sony FX3 camera which saves these gyro data.
Catalyst Prepare and Catalyst Browse are not user friendly softwares and they have slow GUI and slow video processing, but the result are much better than any other Vegas third party stabilization plugins and VP built in stabilization feature.

Free Capcut can, Resolve can't. But Capcut doesn't stabilize as well. I tried Capcut + resolve, not sure if it's better, you most likely don't want to process a video with both. Also that burnt in text in the demo video I"m using may cause some confusion in correcting CMOS distortion as well as stabilization.

I didn't try it, but we're talking about the best all round stabilizer it's most likely Premiere Pro, as it's good at stabilizing and also does the CMOS fix.
