Can anyone tell me exactly what is proDAD CMOS FiXr?    I try to run a test by import a small footage into Vegas timeline and I drop prodad cmos fixr onto the fooatge.  All I see is look like some kind lens correction thing.  I am not even sure what is this FX use for.

This fx is to remove the wobbling effect cause by vibration.

To run it, twirl down the parameter on click on estimate.

Hope that helps

Heres a quick comparison of the  Vegas built-in stabiliser with Merrcalli V4 with and without the Cmos fixer.

This is a cheap Sony WX350 camera. There is a lot or rotational movement which both fix well but Mercalli leaves a vertical jitter. The Cmos fixer fixes that, so you need both.

Sony - or now Magix - is so much easier to use and is just as effective in cases I've tried. I would have preffered the budget be spent on the Titler rather than more stabilisation.

I found that VP14 crashes when I try to stabilize 4K video from my Sony a7SII using the Vegas stabilizer and that it is necessary to use Mercalli to stabilize. Vegas stabilizer works on 1080p video on my computer with VP14.

Kinvermark wrote on 5/2/2017, 9:58 AM

That's right.   Vegas stabilizer is old, and doesn't support 4K .

Vegas Pro's stabilizer works fine here when used with 4k media shot by a Sony Z100.

First Mercalli and then CMOS Fixer? Or the other way?
Which option brings the best result?

terry54321 wrote on 5/2/2017, 3:06 PM

The Sony a7SII uses a xvac s file vs the Sony Z100 uses a xvac file which may be less compressed than the xvac s and allow it to work with the Vegas stabilizer. It may also depend on which render option is used and how long the stabilized clip is. When I used the Main Concept AVC the Sony stabilizer seems to get partway through the stabilized 4k clip before the render stops and Vegas stops responding. When I switched to the Mercalli stabilizer the same stabilized clip rendered without a problem.

Wrong, first CMOS fixer and then Mercalli. CMOS fixer is only needed when you discover wobbeling in the Mercalli result.

With 4k media, the internal Vegas stabilizer (based on Mercalli 2) can crash on certain scenes.

Ooops,  My Bad!   I just tried some GH4 4k UHD clips and they worked fine.   Did Magix fix this? Or perhaps the problem was a lot more limited than I remember - maybe 24p or 4k DCI frames?

That is definitely what the Prodad site and videos recommend... but I have seen some weird results with it placed first that disappeared when it was placed second.   In any case, I find that the slowdown from using cmos fixer isn't worth the improvement.

OK. Confirmed GH4 4k DCI footage does crash vegas when applying vegas stabilizer.

terry54321 wrote on 5/2/2017, 5:15 PM

I just tried using the internal stabilizer in the latest Vegas Pro 14 build to stabilize a 4K xvac s clip from the Sony a7SII and part way through the stabilization process VP14 stopped responding. I did not even get to trying to render it. I have never had a problem with the new Mercalli external plugin.

Just tried a few GH4 4K DCI (.MOV) scenes here and no problem.

Mine were MP4 files; not sure I have any mov 4k dci to test.

I doubt that would make a difference as they are both decoded by the same codec dll (compoundplug.dll), but I suppose it might.

Certain 4k mp4 files from my Panasonic FZ300 cause Vegas (also Vegas Movie Studio) to crash when using the Vegas stabilization plugin. Others don't. It are always the same files which cause the crash. When I rerender such a problem file first with Mainconcept AVC and use that rerendered file with the Vegas stabilization plugin, than NO PROBLEM.
