Program doesn't respond/lags with each change I make

Daveyb078 wrote on 7/18/2019, 2:21 PM

Hello,

I've bought Movie Studio 16 Platinum a couple months ago and since then I've used it for two (vacational) video's. I'm now still editing the second one, but each time I add a clip (via the explorer build in) or I change something about the length or crossfade it with another clip the program won't respond for a minute or two.

It is really frustating to wait for two minutes after adding the clip, then click on it and wait for about 30 seconds before i can shorten it (pictures). After I do that i need to wait a minute or two again before I can crossfade it with another clip on the timeline. And then I need to wait for about two minutes again before i can add the next clip/picture.

I copied the video files to my second drive to speed up the importing process.

Does anyone have the same problem or even a solution for this?
I was using Pinnacle before and never had this sort of problem.

Here are my system specs:

  • OS: Windows 10 Home 64-bit
  • CPU: i5-4590
  • MB: MSI H97 Gaming 3
  • RAM: 16 GB
  • GPU: AMD R9 390
  • Storage 1: 1000 GB SSD (550mb/s read, 520mb/s write) (Main drive c:)
  • Storage 2: 500 GB SSD (550mb/s read, 520mb/s write) (on this drive the video files are located)
  • Storage 3: 8TB NAS (Synology DS218+, 1GB/s LAN) (Photo's are located on this station)

When using the program I don’t see any extreme throttling CPU rises to 80% max. RAM is about 3.3 GB and GPU won’t go over 15%. Network is 1GB/s by cable internal and external connection is 200mb/s

I hope someone can help me with this.

Regards, Davey

What is the MediaInfo of your sourcefiles , what are your projectsettings and what is your goal for the edits.
If you use AVC or HEVC files your processor is too weak to proces all in VMS 16 , maybe the use of proxy files also for FHD can help editting.

The goal for the edit is just set the files in chronological order with an textfield with location and to add an crossfade between each file of about 0,10 sec.

The settings I want to export the video in are:

Video:
Template: HD 1080-60i (1920x1080; 29,970 fps)
Full-resolution rendering quality: Best
Deinterlace mode: Blend Fields

Audio:
Stereo, 48.000 Hz, 16bit, Good resample and stretch quality

I use the following data formats:

Those files are indeed very heavy for your hardware, therefore use during edit the proxyfiles set with this option under the menu "Options".

Read also in the manual what that means and how your preview most be arranged. The files are automatically being replayced by the original files when rendering is starting.

Discussieert iets gemakkellijker. 😄😉

Don't set your project properties to interlaced but to progressive.
