Program "Not Responding" Vegas Pro 19 Build 651

DCrowe wrote on 9/10/2023, 6:20 PM

I am working with 4k video clips made with a Canon HFG70 camera. The program gives me a "Not Responding" message sometimes when I try to either move a clip to the trimmer or move a clip from the Trimmer to the timeline. My only option is to shut down the program and restart it. This can happen multiple times with various clips. How can I correct this?

We will need some additional info 1) about your media, download media info - free and post the details on here, 2) info on your Vegas settings. Good news is that Vegas works great with the 1080 GPU with the Studio driver.

(Intel 3rd gen i5@4.1GHz, 32GB RAM, SSD, 1080Ti GPU, Windows 10) Not now used with Vegas.

13th gen i913900K - water cooled, 96GB RAM, 4TB M2 drive, 4TB games SSD, 2TB video SSD, GPU RTX 4080 Super, Windows 11 pro

What info do you need about the Vegas settings? I am using NewBlue Tilter Pro 6. The video setting are set to match the media. Are there other settings that you need?

Here is the media info of a typical file.

Nothing stands out with the video format except the mention of Quick Time in the audio (try enabling the depreciated feature of quick time) - go to options preferences depreciated features and tick box for quick time plugin. also post a screen shot of options preferences video tab, and another screen shot of File I/O please.

I enabled the Quicktime plugin and have tried it a few times with some success but it may take a little more time to be sure. I have also attached the screenshots that you asked for.

Your preferences look OK and should not cause any issues. Note that if you check the boxes to use legacy decoding Vegas will not use the GPU so uncheck the HEVC legacy unless it has been checked for a reason.

When you get the non responding white screen you should also get an option to see the crash screen where you can check two boxes to see the crash details of the faulting modules. If that is available it would help pinpoint a possible cause?

Also in your signature you list a 1080 but in the preferences data it lists a 1060, if it is a 1060 what is the onboard RAM of the card?

What happens is the program just locks up and when I click anywhere on the screen I get the white overlay but there is nothing on it. The only option that I have is to close the program which results in the popup box with 2 buttons, one for close program and the other is wait for program to respond (which it never does).

I will uncheck the HEVC legacy and see what happens. I seem to remember that might have been check to try to fix a problem that I had with a previous video card.

The 1080 is a typo. It is a 1060 with 6GB.

Personally I never had much luck with NVDEC and my 1050 card (fast enough but not stable). If you enable legacy AVC (your MediaInfo didn't say you were using HEVC so that setting doesn't matter) is it more stable? Alternatively you could set hardware decoder to none and keep the new decoder on. That will put more load on the CPU but maybe the 7700K is fast enough?

What video card do you use?

@DCrowe
Did you already tried to reset the program to the situation right after the installation?
No, than try it and follow exactly this tutorial :https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-how-can-i-reset-vegas-pro-to-default-settings--104646/

GTX 1050 (mobile) with 7700HQ CPU- my systems are in my signature.

It appears that none of your suggestions have worked. However, I have narrowed down on when this occurs. Yesterday after about 45 min to an hour of editing, the program locked up and I got the not responding message again. What I was doing was clicking through the clips in the Explorer tab to find the clip that I was looking for. What I found was that it locked up when I clicked on a clip. I wasn't moving it or trying to do anything other that identify the clip that I wanted. After I re-loaded Vegas and went back to the clip that had caused the program to lock up, it worked fine with no lockup. So it doesn't look like it is a bad clip. The program is set to auto-play the clips and the previous clip may not have completed when I clicked on the next clip. After the re-launch of the program I tried to duplicate the problem by clicking on the same clips doing the exact thing but this time no lock up. Any ideas? I tried opening a ticket with support but of course they no longer support Vegas 19.

Is your Intel GPU available?
I aske that because with me this GPU is used at File I/O

While VP 19 may not be updated any longer, doesn't support still provide support for it?

DCrowe wrote on 9/14/2023, 8:23 AM

Nope. Here is the reply that I got from them.

"VEGAS Pro 19 is no longer covered by technical support due to it being a legacy product. However, there is a workaround to this.

You can try the trial version of VEGAS Pro 21 to see if the same issue occurs. If it does, you can contact us for support on the trial, then simply do the same troubleshooting steps provided for the trial on the software you own as well.

Please find the 30-day trial here: Test VEGAS Creative Software for free

Then, if you end up enjoying the software, you can find the upgrade discount page here: Upgrades for VEGAS Pro and VEGAS Movie Studio"

I have tried it both ways and I still get the lockup.
