Prores 8k Render not possible yet?

steve-ohlhaber wrote on 8/10/2025, 3:42 PM

I have vegas pro 20 and even in the trail version of 22 pro, you still cannot seem to render in prores 8k. I see countless posts from people that confuse decode with encode saying, it works. It does not. When you take any video, force it to 7680x3840, the just try to render it, pick Apple Prores 422, then SURPRISE, no 8k templates. OK, custom template, pick width 7680 then.... oops, when you leave that cell, you see the max is 5120. So, nobody ever has actually exported prores out of vegas in 8k still? Is that true? I cannot imagine I am missing anything as anyone can do a quick test and see this. Is there some very strange setting I am missing, because its not any obvious setting I am missing.

Did you try rendering with Voukoder?

BruceUSA wrote on 8/10/2025, 5:12 PM

With Voukoder you can render 8K Prores file. With Magix you only get 5K as you have find out.

ps. The bad news is that, Voukoder 8K and Magix 5K Prores render in Vegas is defective files. Neither video files can play, Vegas or MPC-BE player. Basically it is useless files.

@steve-ohlhaber Voukoder Classic gets 8K done.

@BruceUSA I was able to put the output from Voukoder back on the Vegas Pro 22-250 timeline and it played. It seems to work as an intermediate. I have not used ProRes for file exchange. In fact, I don't have much use for 8K since I don't have an 8K source. It's all a thought experiment for me.

@steve-ohlhaber @BruceUSA  I just rendered 8k 7680x3840 & 7680x4320 from VP using Voukoder, they play in MPC player fine & load into VP fine.

John & Gid. Wow. I am glad to know 8K in Voukoder is working in Vegas. It must be something is not right at my end. Oh well.

@steve-ohlhaber A Reddit post explains how to bypass the maximum limit: https://www.reddit.com/r/VegasPro/comments/wo1wpr/solution_to_max_height_reverting_back_to_2304/

It still works on ProRes. I recorded a video to show how I made it work.

Using VEGAS Pro 22 build 248 & VEGAS Pro 21 build 208.

Information about my PC:
Brand Name: HP VICTUS Laptop
System: Windows 11.0 (64-bit) 10.00.22631
CPU: 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-12700H
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Laptop GPU
GPU Driver: NVIDIA Studio Driver 560.70

Thanks for the video. As VEGAS can actually do it and ProRes supports any frame size, I wonder if this is a bug in the render interface?
