QT bit me

Well, after a few years of the QuickTime updater bugging me about updating from QT 6 to the latest QT (currently QT 7.7.1), I figured it must be stable so I let it do its thing.

Well, while Vegas 8.1 (64bit) still opens QT files just fine -- Vegas 8.0c (which I use most of the time) opens them, but only black shows up for the video. I tried uninstalling and re-installing Vegas, but no luck. Still no video from mov (or Mp4) files.

I assume it's something to do with the qt7plug.dll file that Vegas installs. I did download the 8.0c Vegas installer from Sony tonight, so I would think it's the newest of each file available from them.

I guess I can uninstall QT 7.7.1 and reinstall QT 6.x if that might work. Of course, it might make it worse...

Thanks for any suggestions...

Jim

Update: My install of Vegas 8.0c is now working with QuickTime files again...

I did little more internet research and found that the last version of QT that works with Vegas 8.0c is 7.6.4. So I un-installed QT 7.7.1 and installed 7.6.4. (download from a link I found on a Creative Cow Forum). It appears that I'm back in business.

Anyone know of any other issues I might keep an eye out for now?

Thanks again.

Jim

Jim,
The latest build of Vegas Pro 11 has a problem with QT 7.7.1
The one prior is fine.

I always thought it was 7.6.2 that was the last one compatible with Vegas 8.0c. So if you still have any trouble then you might want to roll back just a little bit further to that one.

Thanks for the info Nick. I just snagged a copy of QT 7.6.2. from the same archive in case something goes flakey with 7.6.4.
