Red Screen while preview - Vegas Pro 17

Abs72 wrote on 10/29/2019, 5:31 PM

Hi,

Sorry if re-post, I did search with no luck!

When I preview my videos most time I get a red screen. Not sure why!

Sometimes when I change preview settings it goes back to normal but another part of the video changes to red while previewing...

Hardware:

Intel i9

32GB DDR4

GFX = Nvidia RTX 2080

Any ideas?

Thanks

How should we get any idea while we know nothing about your sourcefiles, projectsettings, preview settings, settings of options/preferences/"video" and "file I/0".
Look here how to give that info: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/important-information-required-to-help-you--110457/

1. Don't use an interlaced video projectsetting using progressive files.

2. Lower your Dynamic Ram Preview to 200 or 0 unless you use for your whole timeline previewing the Dynamic Ram Preview from the Options menu. In that case why????????

3. Use not the latest gamedrivers for the use of Vegas but the latest Studio driver like mine from signature.

Thanks @j-v

1. How do I go on about changing the setting from progressive to interlaced?

2. I have 32gig of ram so I thought I increase the Dynamic Ram Preview as i have spare ram to use

3. Thats interesting... I guess that will effect me playing games right?

Will need to find a way to create 2 windows profiles one for gaming and one for studio drivers!

1. How do I go on about changing the setting from progressive to interlaced?

Project Properties > Field order > None (progressive scan)

You can match your media's properties with the button in the top right of that window.

2. I have 32gig of ram so I thought I increase the Dynamic Ram Preview as i have spare ram to use

It is not as simple as that. This setting is mysterious. Try 200 or 0 as j-v says.

Also, you didn't say whether "Enable Hardware Decoding for supported formats" is enabled or not. See part C7 in the thread j-v linked to.

@NickHope
Is that part C7 pointing to the right Vegas 17 Option?

Thanks for all your help so far!

Ok So I did what you said above and am still getting the red screen.

Please find output from Part C7:

I did not say that because I think with your hardware and those sources and project it is not needed.

But sometimes with heavy 4K files it can help , but you choosed the wrong decoder, you must choose the Nvidia

@j-v Fixed (changed "Video" to "File I/O"). Thanks.

@Abs72 So another thing you could try would be to disable hardware decoding. But playback performance will probably suffer.

Abs72 wrote on 10/30/2019, 5:33 AM

Ok guys,

Thanks again for all your comments above.

I changed the decoder to Nvidia and restarted VP17 and still got the red screen.

I disabled decoder and restarted VP17 and application crashed.

I enabled decoder with Nvidia and set DRam to 200, restarted VP17 and so far I have had no red screens or crashes.

So maybe this fixed it. Will test for the next couple of days and see what happens.

Appreciate your help 🍔🍟

@Abs72

Reading this

I think you fumble around too much with settings and while these are the settings Vegas uses at the first start after installation, I think to help you also for problems that also could arise through your own changes, the best is to reset the program to the situation after that first install.
Look here how to manage: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-how-can-i-reset-vegas-pro-to-default-settings--104646/

What @NickHope told you about part C7 is a wrong one for decoding.

That picture is pointing at the MKV reader and that has nothing to do with this problem of you.

@j-v The arrow is supposed to be pointing at "Enable Hardware Decoding for supported formats", not the MKV reader.

But I may revise it to make that even clearer.

You must there choose the hardware decoder and to me your best seems to be the Nvidia NV Decoder. Sorry Nick.

I agree that Abs72 should try the NVIDIA NVDEC decoder, before trying to disable hardware decoding completely. Previously I missed the fact that Intel QSV was selected.

Abs72 wrote on 10/30/2019, 5:53 AM

yeah I used online tutorials, trying to get the best of my hardware and get the best performance.

A while ago I had this same issue, I found that using a different older nvidia driver fixed this. I'd suggest trying different driver versions or using nvidia's creator ready drivers.

A red frame is a VEGAS hint that the GPU returns an error with "internal ressources". Please add the vegas170.exe to your NVIDIA control panel.
