I don't know why but I changed the setting as in the book and on my lcd monitor and tv it is so much better. The other setting of interlaced-lower field first looks terrible when viewd on my lcd tv. I even put the burned dvds in my old dvd player hooked up to a 15 year old CRT tv and the interlaced rendered project looked okay. Surprisingly the dvd that I rendered with the none (progressive) setting also looked okay. And I actually prefer it. He did explain in the book that you definitely should use the progressive scan if viewing on lcd and also indicated that if viewing a progressive scan file on a CRT that it will interlace the video and be okay. The only time to use the first setting would be if you would ONLY be viewing on an interlaced device. Again, I don't know why but he must have put that information in his book for a reason and it certainly worked for me. I hope this information can help someone else in the same situation as I was if they are using older cameras.

Using an older camera has nothing to do with it, it has to do with how well (or not well) your LCD handles interlaced material. You really haven't been very specific about your workflow, DVD player or the brand and model of the LCD TV.

By making the video progressive you have thrown out half of your temporal resolution but, if it looks better to you, go for it.

I'm glad you found a solution that works for you. I'm finished with this thread.

A bit late to this thread, but when I first migrated to Vegas/DVDA from Ulead MSP/DVDWS2, I ticked the 'reduce interlace flicker' box as in DVDWS2 you got awful looking menus if you didn't.
The first DVD I produced with DVDA re-compressed the whole video and it looked shockingly bad! Unticking the 'reduce interlace flicker' box produced a DVD without any re-compression that looked as good as the original. Don't know if this was an early bug (DVDA 4.5 I think) but I've never tried ticking that box again!
