Render DVD surround 5.1 Vegas pro 17

Hello, I hope you are well.

I'm having a problem rendering DVD Surround 5.1 audio in Vegas Pro 17. The option is active in the program and I also have DVD Architect Pro 7, purchased with Vegas Pro. When I try to render in this format, the render window closes and does not run any processes. This is happening to me after a reinstall. Can you help me by telling me how I can make this option work in Vegas. Very grateful for the help you can give me. I am rendering for a project in DVD Architect

I don't think VEGAS 17 can encode AC3 5.1 anymore... Voukoder supports it if I remember, maybe try to download that and render using it... alternately, you can render out a 6 channel wav (in split channel format, so it renders 6 separate mono wav files, one for each speaker and the subwoofer), you can then feed those into this app and it will encode it into a 5.1 channel surround ac3 file.

Vegas Pro 14, 15 and 16 were able to render AC3 5.1 using a workaround as per item 31 in:

https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/vegas-pro-faqs-and-troubleshooting-guides--104787/

For Vegas Pro 15 and 16, the workaround required the transfer and renaming of some File I/O files from Vegas Pro 13 into Vegas Pro 15/16.

The workaround definitely does not work in Vegas Pro 17 or later.

I currently use the workaround in VP14 and the lack of a 5.1 render from Vegas is the main reason I didn't upgrade any more. Have the majority of folks just given up on this issue and go with stereo audio? The suggestion from frosty above seems way too much hassle

I have V12 and V19. I export the separate tracks from V19 and create the 5.1 using V12.

Much the same here except that I export the audio tracks to VP16 which has the workaround installed. Could always go back to VP10, 11, 12 or 13 if necessary.

Interesting. Sorry to be a bit slow here but DMT3/Dexcon how do you use VP 19 to generate a 5.1 audio file? I cant see any render options in my trial version of VP20 that allows me to do that. Is there an option to render a single track?

Also could I ask what medium your final product is? I tend to use DVDAP 5.2 to burn a blu- ray

It's not possible from VP17 onwards. The way to render to AC3 5.1 is to copy the audio tracks from the VP17 (and later) project's timeline and paste them into Sony VP13 (or earlier) - or into VP14, 15 or 16 which has one of the workarounds employed - and then render to AC3 in that old VP version which will have the customisable AC3 Pro 5.1 render template.

I'm using DVDA 6.0 burning to blu-ray single layer discs.

Like Dexcon said, render out the separate tracks or copy and import them into a version that supports AC3 5.1.

Or just use the free app I posted that doesn't require owning an older version of VEGAS.

@fr0sty is the free app an official authorized version of Dolby AC3?

OK thanks guys. I had spent some time looking at the VP20 documentation earlier as there seemed to be quite a bit referring to rendering 5.1 audio; certainly gave me the impression that there was scope to do something but a false dawn by the sound of it. A program this expensive and missing something so important!!!

fr0sty wrote on 8/17/2022, 2:15 PM

VEGAS can render 5.1 just fine, just not Dolby Digital, which few other apps can these days as well because of Dolby's notoriously overpriced licensing policy. I gave you 2 ways to use VEGAS to render 5.1 that results in a Dolby Digital compatible 5.1 channel audio file. One of them (Voukoder) doesn't even require you to leave VEGAS, and both are free.

@frosty which template are you referring to for 5.1 rendering and will this be loadable into DVDAP 5.2 for a blu-ray? I can see the Voukoder option you mention what's the second option you refer to?

Thanks @Joelson. Ill take a look at this
