Render settings for BD from 720p source files

rraud wrote on 7/27/2014, 10:03 AM
Forgive me as this has been covered before, but maybe not in this particular instance.
99% of the source files in this project are 720p 59.940 frames. File attributes are below.
I think I'd like to go with the MPEG-2 format as it renders a little quicker than AVCs.
What are the preferred render settings parameters?
CBR, VBR? BPS: max, avg., min.?
Two pass? Video quality? Field order? upper, lower, none/progresv? Specific advanced video settings?
Obviously I want to avoid re-compressing in DVD Arc.
I'm running VP-9 if that makes any difference
Total project run time: 2hr.s, 3 min.s
PS: I have the audio covered. PCM 48/24 and have already done a DVD version of the program.
Thanks, Rick

I've done this in many different flavors. Start in this thread.

Rick,
It's an easy one, because 720p MPEG-2 is a recognized BD format.
Lacking a BD 720p MPEG template in Vegas (I have 8.0), I'd smart render my project to 720p HDV, set my DVDA project accordingly, and go from there.
Or, you might be able to alter one of the DVDA video stream templates in Vegas to match

Rick, It's a lot easier for me to make a new one than to find the old ones.

Blu-ray 1280x720-59.94p, 19.7 Mbps video stream

For Windows 7, place this template in:

C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Sony\Render Templates\mpeg2-mc

I set it to Two-Pass by default. This was created in Vegas Pro 9.

Thanks John
Thanks again MV.
(dinner/drinks on me at the next NY AES)
I am using John's 19Mbps, since the source files are around that. ??
Looks good.
Thanks!
