Render slows down to almost nothing every time I render this project

InvictusManeo wrote on 9/5/2024, 10:31 AM

Has anyone had this problem before? When trying to render this project it slows down to almost 0% at about 43-44% every time.
I'm not sure if it's frozen. I'm rendering in H264 MP4 at 60 Frames, 1440p.

If anyone has a fix I'd appreciate it!

200 fps are nothing??

Ok, beside that, have a look to the upcoming patch of VP22.

It's not writing to the disk as you can see in the screenshot

in spite of the observation about disk writes, does the render complete in the estimated ~ 40 minutes?

No it just sits on the last frame. I left it on for about 2 hours and it hadn't moved. I can't find any issues with the timeline at the point of failure either. It's just an MP4 file with a few WAV audio files in that part. The program hasn't crashed either. If I cancel it, it just cancels and I'm back to the timeline.

@InvictusManeo

It's a known issue with long renders going back as far as I can remember.

Next time this happens, just cancel the render and see if your output file is intact and playable.

If so, you're good to go. My theory is that some temp files are not being properly deleted.

Also, if you are rendering to MOV format, it works differently because of the nature of their temp files; flushing them normally takes longer than say, MP4 format.

Sounds plausible, I did notice the temp files were not being deleted from the failed renders. Unfortunately I have split it into smaller clips in hopes of rendering each one and just concatenating with ffmpeg, but even the shorter renders are crashing now. I've rendered 8-10 hours with no issues before. Just started today.
