Render with transparency always less vibrant?

Former user wrote on 12/13/2023, 5:15 AM

Hi, whenever i render an event with transparency it's always a bit translucent, less bright, whatever you want to call it,

I've tried MagicYUV, ProRes & Video for windows that has MagicYUV,

The rendered file has Straight as the Alpha channel, if I change this to Premut it looks right but is this what I always have to do?

Thanks.

For a Vegas help explanation of the differences between the alpha channel options, R click on the video event click on Properties, go to the Media tab, click on the '?' mark in the Properties header and then click on the 'Alpha channel' field. In the window that opens, click on 'Editing properties for a video file' and then scroll down to the 'Alpha channel' information which explains what each alpha choice does or doesn't do.

My approach is to use whichever setting looks the best.

@Dexcon Thanks, I do know a little about the different alpha channels, what I want to know is why do I have to change it every time I create something like this,

I don't think that there is the ability to change the default alpha setting in Internal Preferences (not that I could find anyway). If you are wanting to be able to set a particular alpha choice as a default setting, maybe add that as a feature request via https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/vegas-pro-feature-requests--134374/?page=23

@Dexcon Thanks, a lot of the effects I have/can do have premut as the default or can be changed & if I have to change it in Vegas that isn't a big problem if it is set to straight 👍 It just bugs me a little 😉

This is an example of .... what n why. If Vegas renders with a straight channel why does it need changing to Premut when dragged onto the timeline but if PI standalone renders with a straight channel it looks correct when dragged into Vegas 🥴?

@MikeS Thanks, I had this comment open & just seen your comment, I'll have a look at that vid 👍

In the most general sense, Vegas has gotten worse at correctly recognizing input file properties, both from motion and still media. This includes colorspace profile, alpha, and aspect.

Hi Gid, I use Particle Illusion to output two files: Straight and Premult, and drag them into Vegas.

Their results seem to be the same as that of Particle Illusion OFX in Vegas. This is the result of my comparison with Video Scopes:
This is my project: https://www.mediafire.com/file/v85txwu9xhyn73y/Alpha_Channel.7z/file

Can you share your project?

@lan-mLMC Hi, they look the same for me in the scopes, this is just Histogram but the other options are the same for both as in your pic,

Why is your background grey & did you leave the Premut rendered one at the Default Straight that Vegas loads it as? If I change the Premut one to Premut in the event properties it does look correct on screen & the scopes don't change.

Here I've changed it to Premut

I've no idea what you mean by 'engineering documents' 🤷‍♂️

A VEGAS solid color event as background.

Yes, there is nothing to do but drag them into the track.

A veg file with rendered footages by PI.
