Rendered video lag on Vegas Pro 12.

buse wrote on 3/24/2018, 10:51 AM

When i render a video it looks really choppy compared to the raw footage (outside of vegas pro).

The raw footage itself looks smooth & clean outside of Vegas Pro but as soon as i open it in Vegas it looks choppy (in the preview) compared to the raw footage. The lag in the preview then "carries on" to my rendered video. I've tried a bunch of methods to fix this issue, including stuff like changing project settings, changing my render settings (format & bitrate) & even changing preferences. I have also tried installing Vegas 15, and there is no lag there, at all. But i want to use Vegas Pro 12.

This issue is really annoying as i cant enjoy my rendered video. I mean hell, i've tried changing the bitrate up to over 30 million and the issue is still there. The rendered video can look really beautiful, except it's choppy as hell.

Is this a change from previous behaviour or has it always been laggy?

"It's also worth noting that the raw footage i use is several GB and the format is MP4."

So far you've described a preview problem in Vegas Pro 12, but you've told us nothing about what's in that MP4 wrapper.

Is this what you wanted me to do? Sorry for not sharing enough info about my MP4 file.

Is this a change from previous behaviour or has it always been laggy?

As soon as i switched from Vegas Pro 15 to Vegas Pro 12 there was a noticeable change in the way the footage looked (performance wise). The rendered (& the previewed) video was really choppy when i used Vegas Pro 12, but when i used Vegas Pro 15 it was smooth as butter, even previewing it did not lag on "Best Full".

So yeah Vegas Pro 12 has always been laggy for me (since i haven't used it for too long).

So i should change the frame rate mode in FFmpeg or something?

john_dennis wrote on 3/24/2018, 1:26 PM

Likely, yes.

If you could share a short file of the "problem video", others could independently verify that variable frame rate is the issue or one of the issues.

Okay so the frame rate mode is variable & that's probably why the video becomes choppy in Vegas Pro 12.

Then i don't understand why it isn't choppy when i use Vegas Pro 15. I mean the files frame rate mode is still the same so why is it choppy in SVP 12 but not in SVP 15?

Don't know. Don't care since I haven't started my Vegas Pro 15 trial, yet. Just trying to get you a workaround.
