rendered videos stutter

rendered videos stutter. I use Vegas 21 on an HP with AMD Ryzen™ 7 5800H processor, 16 GB RAM, AMD Radeon™ RX 5500M graphics card (4 GB of GDDR6 dedicated). Can anyone suggest me the possible causes and possible configurations to solve the problem? If necessary I can post an example of a stuttering video. Thanks

Please give a link where we can download and test the type of video you are editing.

My guess is VEGAS is not reading the media correctly (or user error where the media and render framerates don't match).

@daniele-mariani Hi, convert your footage to constant frame rate using Handbrake or another convertor.

I occasionally get this stuttering, my Samsung phone has a Stabilization feature which does remove shakiness but it does create a bit of a lag when panning the camera around,

This is the orig variable clip added to Vegas & then rendered out, note the stutter as it pans around.

------------

This is the same footage converted to constant, added to Vegas ( the orig was still on the timeline so I used right click - Replace in the Project Media window & chose the converted constant clip) then rendered the same as the vid above using Magix AVC

You can see the slight delay the Stabilization is creating as it pans around but this is pretty much exactly the same as the original from the phone.

-------------

This is my orig Variable clip & these are the numbers that are causing the problem min 15.00 FPS & max 42.959 FPS, If you look at your MediaInfo above they are also quite variable, min 10.002 FPS max 32.632 FPS

@daniele-mariani

Cellphones are notorious for producing a variable frame rate video. Video editors are constant frame rate editors. So, what @Gid wrote is what you need to do.

Yes, you might have selected in your cellphone settings to record at 30fps, that is not what it did. So think about have the software is going to interpolate a frame rate swing, according to your MediaInfo, of

Minimum frame rate                       : 10.002 FPS

Maximum frame rate                       : 32.632 FPS

How to avoid this? Shoot in evenly well lit places.

You can use HANDBRAKE to convert to a 30fps video. Install it, drag video on top of it. Click the Video tab, choose for Video Encode H264, Framerate 30, and tick Constant Framerate. At the bottom, there is Save As where you browse the location where to save it and give it a different file name. Then go up to the top and click the green button. Use MediaInfo again to confirm you now have a constant frame rate video.

Also, Vegas Pro 315 has really important stability improvements over 314 for AMD users so I recommend installing it.

MxCompound does have issues properly reading various footage. If you go frame by frame on the timeline do you see duplicate or black frames? One workaround is to enable legacy AVC decoding in preferences/ file io.

Converting media to constant framerate is generally a good idea.

Here's my render of your sample media.

I think you mean of 'stutter' is 'Not smooth video' during panning ?

Thank you. I was waiting for the 315 to also solve the pan/crop crash problem which had already been discussed in another post.

This is yours converted to constant with Handbrake & then rendered using Vegas Magix AVC.

It looks the same as the orig from the phone 👍
