Replace Event with a Veg

Teetime wrote on 11/17/2020, 6:44 AM

I have a project where I have created some complex track motion using a proxy still image. Now I would like to replace the still image with the intended veg file. I imported the veg file into my project media. But when I select to replace the still image, I don't have the option of choosing the veg file as the replacement. Is there a trick or technique I can use to accomplish this? I'm using Vegas 18 Pro.

Drag VEG onto Event and then Add Event As Take, job done.

Ciao Grazie, if this works for me it will be VERY useful. However, I think something is amiss on my Vegas. I added the veg to the event as a take, but it displays "media is offline". I right clicked the veg in the project media and selected to create a proxy and it says it is already creating one. That makes sense, but then it says I can press Cancel on the status bar, but there is no cancel visible - makes me think something is confused. It has now been a couple hours and still media is offline. In the instance of Vegas where I originally created the veg I was able to create a proxy in about 20 minutes. Any ideas?

Any ideas?

@Teetime - Yes. I'll try and repro . . . .

@Teetime - Can't add to a Still. Once I remove the Still then it works. Might need to Render the Still as a Vid first . . . . Still playing with this.

@Teetime @Grazie

Like everything else, I tend to do it the hard way...

@Teetime - Correction: It's working fine. Added a JPG and then two Veggies as TAKES, works fine. I hit the T and I can circle/rotate through all three.

@john_dennis - Well, it IS working as I described. 😉

@Grazie

I know, but it's not difficult enough for me.

Here you go! The UPPER screen is the TL, the Lower is the Preview. You can see the TAKE Changing:

@john_dennis @Grazie
I have tried both of your approaches and either successfully replaces my png with the desired veg file. What isn't happening in either case is the creation of a proxy for the desired veg. I just tested replacing my png with a tiny one event veg file and the proxy for that veg builds in seconds. In my actual project, the veg I am trying to use to replace the PNG with is quite complex, so I surmise it must be overwhelming Vegas.

I appreciate the insights you've offered!

@Teetime

You can easily do this in Vegasaur. Just tested converting a jpg to a veg and it does create the sfvp0 file correctly. Here's a screengrab of the GUI. Note that you have to manually add the jpg and veg as the original and new file extensions.

A simple script could easily be written, but there's no need to re-invent the wheel.

I figured out what my problem was. Within the veg file that was embedding into another I was using two layered PSD files. I replaced those with png copies and everything works smoothly now. I love the idea that I can now use takes in this way to substitute an image for the eventual embedded veg. It can really speed up the editing process. Thanks to you guys!

Thanks to you guys!

@Teetime - You’re very welcome. Whilst chopping and changing Takes as Layers from a Graph package, I’ve been doing this for years. As you experiment with this even MORE options come to light. 😉
