Reporting bugs in Vegas Pro 18 to Magix

Debbie-Whitmer wrote on 8/12/2020, 7:10 PM

I would like to inform Magix \ Vegas Creative Software of some the bugs that I'm experiencing using Vegas Pro 18 (Build 284). Every time I go to try to find "technical support" hoping to fill out a form so I can inform Magix of the exact problems, it keeps telling me to go to the forums or it brings up a bot for me to put questions into it which do not address my issues but there seems to be no way to contact them. How will they know what bugs the users are experiencing if you cannot tell them so there can be a fix in the next build update? Does anyone have a direct link where I can obtain a form to fill out so these issues go directly to them?

Some of these bugs I do not think can be fixed here in the forums because I think it's a glitch in the programming that needs to be corrected.

(1) For example (another person in the forum had the same problem), as you are working with Vegas Pro 18 in the left-hand corner where all the plugins are listed, as you start scrolling down the list and picking the plugin you want to choose, suddenly odd pictures or some type of distortion starts bleeding through plugin window. This clearly is not right (Note: I have used Vegas for years and currently Vegas Pro 17 and this is not a problem in Vegas Pro 17; it works perfectly). In this particular case, I’m searching the plugins under the “Transitions Tab”.   I have an attachment enclosed so you can see the pictures/objects/distortion bleeding through the plugin list.

(2) Not only this, but regarding the same plugin list, when I choose the ZOOM plugin to use, it shows an icon of an “A” to show how it will transition to a “B”.  But when you select it, suddenly a gigantic “A” or gigantic “B” fills up the entire transition window and, then, the plugin list on the left-hand side completely disappears TOO!  I have another  attachment enclosed so you can see that too.

These things need to be reported to Magix since they are doing the programming?

There are other issues too that I wish to report but I can’t seem to find a place to do that without it keep routing me to the forums and then to the Vegas bot which does not address the problem or notifies Magix.  Again, does anyone have a direct link where I can obtain a form to fill out so it goes directly to them?  And if you are having the same problem, Magix needs to know about this.  Thank you.

@Debbie-Whitmer  Obviously Vegas Pro 18 is still buggy and not ready so do not use it for real projects. Stick to Vegas Pro 17. In the meantime, I think the plugins problem you are facing could be related to graphic card! You could try to disable the dual monitors setup, and use only one monitor and see if problem still there!

@aboammar - Yes, I was not planning on using Vegas Pro 18 for anything as it is unusable for my projects. But testing Vegas Pro 18 while using 17 is what needs to be done to see how everything works because there are only so many days left before I can ask for a refund if need be so I need to test now. In addition, I have very good graphics card along with all other high-end related components in my computer and everything works perfectly in Vegas Pro 17 and then it won't work in Vegas Pro 18? I think Vegas Pro 18 is the problem and not my graphics card. Nevertheless, I appreciate your response. Thank you.

@Debbie-Whitmer Sorry you misunderstood me! I did not mean that the problem is from your graphic card, I meant that the problems could to be related to your model of graphic card with Vegas Pro 18.. in other word, Vegas 18 Pro could have some bugs related to your graphic card or maybe not supporting it as it should be. f you disable your dual monitors setup, temporary, to see if the problem will go away. If it does go away, then Vegas Pro 18 have pugs related to dual monitors with some graphic cards.

The developers regularly monitor these forums for bugs, so you can trust they'll see this. Often times they will respond as well, when they have time to. That said, they're busy working on the new update for VEGAS 18, so they may be too busy to chime in here, don't take it as being ignored if they do not.

Just out of curiosity, do you have your windows display settings set to scale above 100%? (to check, right click on desktop, click properties, and look under the scale settings on that screen)

@aboammar - Okay, I went ahead and unplugged one of my monitors and only used the one monitor. It still does the same thing. The distortion is still bleeding through the plugins' list and nothing has changed. Oh well, it was worth the try. Thank you for your suggestion.

@fr0sty - Hi there. You know, I did not know that the developers monitored these posts. So, that's a good thing!

Also, to answer your question, yes, I have my Scale and layout set to "100% (Recommended)" I would assume that is the default setting even though there are higher percentages in there. Thank you for responding.

Also, regarding reporting to Magix, if VEGAS crashes and you get the crash report dialog pop up, fill that out with your e-mail address, click the check boxes to include additional info, and send it in. They DO read those. If they need more info from you to identify the bug, they might e-mail you about it. If not, you won't hear from them, but they may still have the bug fixed in the next update.

It's a little convoluted but it is possible to contact Magix. Instructions here

I got similar issues too when doing in my ASUS ROG (Intel Graphics + Nvidia Graphics)

Resizing the tabs will fix. (though a bit annoying - hoping this can also be solved)

@set - Thank you for the video! Yes, he demonstrates this distortion in the plugin list precisely and, as you know, what you are I are both experiencing as well. I see that he just moves the bar up and down to make the distortion go away but it's not really a fix. I do the same thing by selecting the "little square" in the upper right hand portion of the entire screen (next to the - and x selections) and when you hover your mouse over it it says, "Restore Down". It brings the window slightly smaller, and then when you select the "little square" again, which now says, "Maximize", it does the same thing. But the fix only lasts for a couple of seconds, LOL! just like the man experienced on the video. Wow, I hope they get this fixed soon but I see that others are clearly having the same problem. And the most important thing is "Magix, are you seeing this too?" Thank you so much for responding set and uploading the video link!! 😊

@Debbie-Whitmer @set Thanks for pointing this issue to our attention. We have not seen this bug before and try to reproduce and fix this as soon as possible.

The support ticket system feels a little bit hidden but the steps before you are able to send a bug report to the customer support group are useful to help you immediately... maybe this is a known bug and you receive the message like "Try this or that for a quick fix and the bug fix comes with the next update" or you found a resolved bug report in the forum (Fix: deactivate something in the preferences).

We (the developers of VEGAS) are in a good contact with the moderators. If something comes up Set, Frosty or the other moderators send a message to us with a hint that something is going wrong.

Nevertheless, Gary and Eric made a short tutorial for the support:

So... we hope you have fun with VEGS Pro 18 and thanks for your feedback. 😊

@Debbie-Whitmer Could you update your AMD driver (https://www.amd.com/de/support/graphics/radeon-500-series/radeon-rx-500-series/radeon-rx-580)? Please try the "Radeon™ Pro Software for Enterprise" version. Does it fix your issue? We believe it is a driver issue and also Set was able to fix his issue by updating the Intel GPU (but he will give us more feedback ASAP).

Quick update: NO - didn't work.

*only retry reinstall Intel Graphics Driver

@Debbie-Whitmer I found something which sounds like your problem. Do you have an ASUS Rog machine like @set with the same issue. The Sonic Suite application that comes with the system causes this issue.

@Debbie-Whitmer Are you able to see the "NahimicOSD.dll" on your system?

Please start the "Windows Power Shell" and run the command

[system.diagnostics.process]::GetCurrentProcess().Modules | where { $_.modulename -match “NahimicOSD.dll”}

@VEGASPascal - Hi there. I updated my AMD driver as you suggested with the link you gave me. I will tell you that the version I had before was version 20.8.1 but the version you wanted me to update to was an older version which is 20.4.2. After I installed it, it did a lot of crazy things to my computer. It came up with a black screen, and my PC locked up and I had to shut it down. After I turned it back on, it took a long time for it to come up and, then, it did some type of system restore or error checking. When my computer finally came back up, I executed Vegas Pro 18. I have an attachment so you can see that this did NOT fix the problem. And like before, I got a gigantic "A" covering the entire transition window AND the plugins listing on the left-hand side of the screen completely disappeared again just like before as I stated in my previous message. In addition, after the installation of these older drivers, my machine was moving very slowly when trying to move the mouse. When I would pick another plugin to use under the transition tab, it would just sit there for at least 15 seconds or more before it would finally show up on the screen where the pictured icons are for me to even use it. I think I need to put back my newer drivers that I had because the older ones you suggested are just not working for me. But thanks for having me try something!

@VEGASPascal - Hi. I did what you suggested with the Windows Power Shell and the result is in my screenshot attached here. And I do not know if the result is good or bad news! LOL!
