Script: RenderEventAddAsTake

wwaag wrote on 8/3/2016, 11:42 AM
For anyone interested, the revised script, RenderEventAddAsTake is ready for testing. It can be downloaded here.

https://www.dropbox.com/sh/pa8sz2uzi61hkzd/AACV3dSR12EDmVmO-m3yadPDa?dl=0

For each selected event, the script renders to a new file using the render template defined by the user for that particular frame size/frame rate combination. The resulting file can be added to the event as a Take or added to a New Track or Both. There is also an option for keeping Pan/Crop FX which can be useful for pre-rendering. There are now a number of options for the folder location of the rendered files.

To use, first read the script notes CAREFULLY. You will need to make changes using a text editor to choose your save option and also to insert the name of the render templates you want to use for the frame size/frame rate combinations of interest to you. You can use Notepad, but it is much easier to use a text editor that shows line numbers such as Notepad++ or EditPad Lite since the script has over 600 lines. It's kind of a pain to set these up, but once done, you can do a render very quickly without using the very tedious template selection GUI each time.

If you are having problems you can send me a PM or post back. Grazie has reported a problem using Twixtor where it renders correctly, but does not add the Take. I could not replicate this, but perhaps someone else could.

Wayne, I've been hammering it today without issue.

Once again, Wayne needs to be thanked for his work on this and to give me a nimble way to stay within the narrative without breaking step!

Thank you Wayne. Good script development needs to be rewarded and has gone on way tooo long in haphazard fashion. Of course, it needs to be incorporated into a supported community (MAGIX , are you listening?) !!!! where the developers can exist in a co-op venture that provides some rewards. Independently written scripts are a key component of the VegasPro software continuum legacy.

Thanks to Wayne and all others who have ventured into this small cottage industry!

Great work, Wayne, thanks for this script.

One note for anybody testing the script with a sample project: Be sure to save your project first because the script needs to use a saved project name.

Let me add something: Like Marco's V2HB, this has knocked down the doors to my creativity - I'm serious.

I've been hammering it for the last 4 hours and I'm getting to my story very very quickly.

@Marco

Thanks for pointing out the problem with failure to save the project. The script has now been changed so that the user will get a message that the project must first be saved. It can be downloaded using the same link found in the OP.

[edit: link removed]

Thanks wwaag for this very useful script

Has wwaag authorised that? He's done more work on this script since it was last generally released, and has already built a VP14 version, so it would be better to let him release it himself.

GJeffrey wrote on 10/13/2016, 2:27 AM

Nick,

I can edit my post and remove the link but you should also do the same on yours.

NickHope wrote on 10/13/2016, 2:36 AM

Thanks. Done. You can remove link or whole comment if you like. I'm in touch with wwaag a lot so I'll see if he's ready to publish an updated version.

I have no problem with someone releasing a text version for V14.  It involves only a change from "Sony" to "ScriptPortal".  I've abandoned the text version that can be downloaded in Dropbox and have now completed a GUI version with quite a few added features.  I hope to make this available at some time in the not too distant future after more testing.

Apologies for my over-reaction above. I assumed it was a "hacked" version of the compiled DLL version of this script (which I have been used to beta-testing), not just a text version with the namespace changed.

To modify wwaag's script in the original post to use in VP14, simply change Sony.Vegas to ScriptPortal.Vegas in line 14 using a text editor.
