Script to delete media bins?

Hello,

It seems the media bins and smart bins in VP13 are plagued with bugs. I have just spent half a day creating almost 400 subclips, which I then organized in about 40 media bins that I created. During the process I might have added/deleted subclips from bins and it looks that these actions have somehow corrupted them, because VP13 will crash now on loading the veg file.

The only way I can open the file is by starting with a new project, closing the Project Media window, then opening my old project. If I then hit ALT+5 to reopen the Project Media window the program hangs again.

I really hate having to recreate all subclips all over again, so I am wondering if there is a script that I can use to delete all media bins I created, in hope that the project will then open without crashing Vegas.

Many thanks for any help.

Sounds like you have fallen victim to this bug which is thankfully fixed in VP14. If you have 40 media bins in your project, and your computer behaves like mine, and VP13 doesn't crash, you can expect your project to take 2 months to open. Project opening in VP13 gets very slow with more than about 20 bins. You could download the trial of VP14 and see if you can open the project. If so, you could possibly even get the project back to VP13 format (after deleting some bins) using this.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! It did work!

Before trying to do 40 bins, I tried doing the same using smart bins, but the program had big trouble after 20 or so. That is why I resorted to bins, not knowing that I was in for another nasty surprise. I really cannot believe the organizational functionality is so crippled on a pro NLE.

EDIT: After further testing, I also found out that creating sub-bins (i.e., nesting some bins into parent bins) seems to help. I was able to create about 40 bins in total, grouped under 7 or 8 parent bins, and it seems to work much better.
