Script to replace renamed offline media?

I quite regularly rename my video files, for example if the scientists change a species name.

e.g.
E:\sea-slug\Chromodoris annulata-ringed-slug\BLRchromodoris-annulata2a.avi

becomes...

E:\sea-slug\Goniobranchus annulatus-ringed-slug\BLRgoniobranchus-annulatus2a.avi

To make the process of replacing the files in my projects a little easier, I use the Peachrock Offline Media Resolver.

But that still only allows me to browse manually to the replacements, one by one. What I'm really looking for is the ability to replace all those now-offline media according to a rename-rule. A bit like building a little of the Bulk Rename functionality into Vegas.

Any chance? Would be a great enhancement to the Peachrock script, or an addition to Vegasaur.

IMHO, there is no chance. How can a script know that c:\footage\crocodile.avi is now d:\projects\behemoth.avi? :)

If you rename the files using Vegas it will all stay in sync. In other words, go to the Project Media Bin to rename your files. I agree there is no way for any program to know what you renamed them to.

Thanks for the answers guys.

How can a script know that c:\footage\crocodile.avi is now d:\projects\behemoth.avi?

Because we tell it! :) I was thinking that there would be a dialog where the user can enter a pattern they have used to rename the offline files.

Examples...

1. For all offline files of pattern, *annulata*.* please now replace with *annulatus*.*

Or maybe...

2. For all offline files of pattern, *.m2t please now replace with *.avi

In both examples the * are unchanged in the old and new files.

I don't know how much scripting can tap into the offline media resolver, but the Peachrock script does. It would be so much more powerful with this capability.

Nick, a Vegas extension that could do all this would require a lot of programming, and the targeted user base would be so small it just isn't worth the effort.

There is a free program called Bulk Rename Utility that does exactly what you want - if you used it BEFORE bringing your files into Vegas.
