Can you give an example of scrolling credits that fade in/out? Do you mean they fade in from the bottom of the screen & fade out at the top & solid in the middle instead of solid all the way through?

If so, that's easy: just use the pan/crop mask & feather it.

i have a sneaking suspicion that the op's client wants fade i/o as it rolls. i had such a client a few years ago. even back then i thought it more trouble than it was worth - opted for fade i/o statics followed by roll.

interested to know how you'd go about doing such a roll .-).

Can you put a cookie cutter with feathered edges on a track above the scroll? Use the same color as the scroll's background.

Edit:

To clarify: put a new track above the scroller. Insert an empty event and apply the cookie cutter. Choose rectangle or oval or .... Change size so it is around the edges of the frame.

Same idea if you apply the cookie cutter fx directly to the credit roll event.

Ushere hit the nail on the head. I did it individually for each title and name by using the pan/crop for the scroll, adding the fade where I want it, then grouped title/name together. Copy/pasted, then edited the name for each one. Fairly easy to align with each other. NBFX titler does have a fade in for scroll, but nowhere near enough control on the fade....though bear in mind I'm an ignoramus on the NBFX titler. There could be a way there.

edit: I also added in some blur for each fade in

I'm not totally sure what you want, but using a gradient mask does let you create a credit scroll that fades onto the screen. You can then overlay this on top of video, if you want something other than a blank background.

Here is a simple project file, along with the gradient mask I used:

Slight variations on the theme using transparent .png files created in Photoshop.

Thanks for your advice guys. It's all done now, but I'll certainly try your Veg's next time I need it.
