Searching for downloaded video effects

Douglas-McCarron wrote on 3/14/2025, 3:38 AM

I came across a video that pointed me to vagesaur.com which had a bunch of free downloads. I am a sucker for the word free. I downloaded them and placed them in a c:\Vegasaur downloads folder with each set of effects in there own sub folder. I thought I was to find them either in the OFX section of Video effects or under view/extentions. I didn't see them in either area. Not sure how to scan for them as the scan for vst seems to only be audio related.

Oddly under view/extentions I got a bunch of LUTs that I didn't know I had downloaded.

This all started because in my VPX software I have three sets of FXhome Ignite effects that work in VPX but only one works in Vegas 22 and I was trying to see if I could get them all to work, with no luck or increase. But those are like a decade old and FX is pretty much gone so doesn't surprise me.

Anyway does anyone know how to scan to have these new free effects I read would work but don't? And I am not a pro at this, I just know how to make movies.

Thank you

Douglas Scott McCarron

Please read the Readme.pdf that is included in the download package - it explains how to use the free transitions.

In a nutshell, these transitions are not OFX transitions; rather, they are Vegas Pro projects that are placed on an upper track on the timeline over the two video events to which the transition is to be applied - Vegasaur describe this on their website as 'drag and drop'.

Ok I read that and I get that for transitions. But there are no pdf's for the light leaks, or Particles, there are rtf files with a lot of some sort of code.

Dexcon wrote on 3/14/2025, 5:39 AM

.rtf files are Rich Text Format files used in word processing so I'm not sure what you've downloaded.

Even though I got the free and paid Light Leaks and Particles from Vegasaur over 6 years ago, I've just downloaded free Light Leaks again and it downloads as a .zip file which contains .mov video files (the Light Leak effects) as well as a README.pdf file. These .mov video events are added to an upper video track on Vegas Pro's timeline.

You can read @Dexcon post HERE. Basically, Ignite Express will not work, nor any version of Ignite Pro prior to version 4.1.

The Ignite software works on my windows 10 machine with my older VPX 14 but not on Vegas 22 on my windows 11 computer. So I guess the future plan is use the windows 10 VPX when I need it, then render an mp4 and bring it over to the windows 11 and vegas. It is a work around.

I started phasing out Ignite when Artlist took over FXHome and went to Boris FX Continuum Complete. Way more plugins, and they are constantly updating and upgrading the software. I waited for Black Friday and bought. Best decision for plugins I've made. Zillions of them along with transitions.

What does it cost? And is it a yearly license or long term

Dexcon wrote on 3/19/2025, 6:53 PM

BorisFX's BCC product page has information about subscription and permanent license costs:

https://borisfx.com/products/continuum/?tags=&search=

Individual BCC Units and Premium Filters can be purchased separately:

https://borisfx.com/products/continuum-units/

I'm not sure about current BCC Unit pricing, but it used to be the case that if you wanted to purchase three Units, the cost would be not much different to buying the complete BCC suite. Also note with Units, all Units installed on the same computer must be from the same BCC version. For example, if you have a Unit from version 2024.5 and then later on bought a Unit from version 2025.0, the version 2025.0 license will override the 2024.5 license thus rendering the 2024.5 Unit unusable.

For the last two years, BorisFX have had a 25% off sale in mid-April (the same offer as the Black Friday sale) so you might want to wait until mid-April to see if that sale offer is on offer this year.

Right now, Subscription is $325 per year if paid yearly. Perpetual is $1095. I guess they want everyone to go subscription now. I have a perpetual license right now that was renewed last year when prices were more "reasonable". Still, it's a product that I will have on my computer.

Yeah I am not a fan of yearly subscriptions, paying for something that will be taken from me isn't wonderful.

Reyfox wrote on 3/21/2025, 3:55 AM

I also have Newblue FX TotalFX 360 installed on my computer that I got when Magix Movie Studio 2022 offered it with the upgrade. TotalFX works in Vegas and Resolve too. I upgraded at a great price.

But now, plugins seem to have gotten out of hand in their pricing. Something that you might consider is Pixelan which offers more reasonably priced plugins. I do have their Spicemaster Pro. You can download trial versions and see if you like them.
