Severe Preview Lag Issues

Hello! I hope this doesn't sound rediculous, but I am experience some pretty bad preview lag. It is true that I record my videos in high quality and on 60fps, and that I use very long clips in my editor with many layers going on. In this case some lag is to be expected, but I am currently using an Alienware 15 laptop with 32 gigs of ram, and almost nothing I've done has any lag or performance issues. The video playback will run decently when not much is going on (I do gaming commentary with facecam and such), but If anything with too much motion in either my camera or the video, I will get lag that makes it very very difficult to edit. Also whenever I use most any affect. I have tried many remidies such as:

- setting the available RAM to 0

- lowering the preview quality lower (even down to Draft Quarter extreme lag can still occur)

- Building up a Dynamic RAM preview (When I select the whole video, it'll only do about a 12 second chunk)

- Setting the Acceleration software to my Nvidia card

- Disabling Resampling on the clips

- Preventing Sony Vegas from using the internet (Not even sure what this'd do?)

It's not awful and I'm sure some people may say it's just because of my long clips and there's nothing to do about it, but if anyone has any ideas I'm very open. Thanks in advance!

Some details about your media and what kind of effects etc you are using would be helpful.  I assume you have read through Nick Hope's various FAQ's about timeline performace.

If you set your preview to "preview-auto" you should get pretty decent playback even with multiple tracks and effects.

With laptops one always has to wonder about the weak link:  how many disk drives and how fast are they?

Firstly, update to build 201.

Sorry for the late response. I have since reading your thing, read Nick Hope's post, as he commented it on my profile. Not even something as low as Draft Quarter can help sometimes, and neither does Preview Quarter. Doing these will help with simple edits, such as the camera panning and such, but for example, when I have large text moving across the screen, it struggles. How do I discover the disck drive and performance? Thanks, Gryphon.

Just look at your windows file explorer "this computer."  How many drives? (Probably just one).  Need more media details, etc. - see Nick's post.
