I have only had 5.0b installed for a day. I found the script problem right away. I haven't found anything else.
It is nice to be able to use arrow keys in the pan/crop dialog again. That is a big positive. Network render is supposed to be easier to set up, and faster too. I haven't yet had a project that needed lots of rendering, so I haven't tested this yet.
Vegas 5.0a wasn't all that broken, so updating certainly isn't mandatory. As I said before, the script problem is the only step backwards, and Sony provided suggestions on how to re-write my scripts to temporarily work around the problem, so I am back on the air.
Now, DVDA is a whole 'nother story. I get upset every time I use that program. The lousy time estimates, the inability to burn above 2x on a Pioneer A05 (and other burners), the way it makes my computer completely useless during a render/prepare, the amazing amount of time I have to spend getting the up/down/left/right navigation to work correctly on scene selection menus --- I could go on and on. The feature set is finally reasonably good in version 2, but the execution is still strictly amateur. Whatever they are doing for the patch release, I hope they take their time and fix some of the underlying flaws.
Back to Vegas. I would recommend the update, unless you use scripts, in which case I would wait until they release a fix for the script problem created in 5.0b.
It's really a case of DIYDDIYD (Damned if you do, damned if you don't), isn't it?
Since the day V5 was released, the board has been full of requests for an update. When Sony kept quiet about when an update would come out, the requests got louder.
So, Sony put an update, and people are unhappy with it.
Sony's option is to a) ignore the peer pressure and fix the current bugs as well carefully watch out for new ones or b) rush it out the door and prepare for more pressure. Comes with the job, I suppose, but the consequences of either choice shouldn't surprise any of us.
Yes John I do use scripts . . one that I'm very fond of is Alexei's "Snapshot to Markers" . .EXCELLENT! it's got the option to overlap I'm gonna be using this in the next few hours . .so there is a "wait/hold" on that .. . I'll use V5a for this . .not a problem . .In fact it was the mass of scripts that people have written, that I dip into that was part of my thoughts as I also use the Excalibur set of wizrds too.
John thanks you for your considered reply, I'm very grateful .. .
