Nat,
Similar to a Steinbeck, but this one is an Italian "Intercine" which is nice because it runs 16mm as well as 35mm (also 17.5mm which can be used for 35mm mag tracks) and is switchable for 24/25fps.
I see a lot of you guys use Maxtor external drives... I've just had a second Maxtor 5000DV go down this year while I was rendering to it :-/
Just suddenly decided it was tired of being a hard drive and wanted to be a toaster instead. Same as before.
Happened the same to a friend of mine, too.
I've been able to rescue the data each time (big cheers for OnTrack EasyRecovery Pro) so it seems to be a file allocation or indexing problem of some sort.
Just thought I'd let you good folks know.
Oh - both were the original blue plastic case types, btw - dunno if it affects the new style ones yet - the replacement they sent for the first dead disk has behaved itself so far.
Maxtor: fingers crossed. Mine have been OK so far. Husband had a small one (100GB) pack it in after a couple of weeks. Disk reported mangled and data "unrecoverable".

Plastic external hard drive enclosures need a fan. Does it have one?
A lousy attempt to merge 2 pics for a wide shot. But this is where I edit, in all it's dusty, messy glory. Always gets this way in the middle of projects. This is a converted garage that hasn't been painted inside yet. The fake paneling's starting to grow on me.
I mostly use Vegas for conversion of reels provided by clients, with the occasional edit for my demo reel. Also, there have been times where I've sync'd it up with Nuendo to run a hi-res video image on the overhead cinema display for approvals - nice client impression factor to have a high-quality version of their film there... ;)
