Show your best work

I'm fairly new here in the video forum, and I'm guessing over the years many of you have posted videos you've done that you've been proud of. So I'm wondering if anyone would be willing to post their work here. Not for critique or anything, but only to share and show with the rest of us who may or may not know what you're about. I hope someone bites. Cheers

no day off matthew?

well, i'll dive in with this small selection:

http://www.vimeo.com/user431180/videos/sort:date

there's no corporate client material there due to copyright, buy all of the clips there were commercial - with the exception of 'tripping out...'.

the 'king of the ranges' video('s) were my own productions - with the committees blessing), with the first being done in 05 and selling 750 @ $25au, the next in 08 (?) selling 1500!! and this years 800 @ $35 and orders still coming in.....

bear in mind, i 'retired' here in 2000 after 30 odd years in film and tv. i thought i'd be out to pasture - but so far i'm inundated with work from which i can pick and choose, at rates i decide (now that's the nicest part!).

it's interesting watching (reading) your posts - you obviously have talent, but more importantly, an inquiring mind that's unafraid to ask questions. it's this last part that sets one on the course to being a true professional. as soon as you stop asking, looking, innovating, you lose the edge, the creativity, and finally the interest - all that's generally left is teaching (no insult to teachers implied since i do a great deal of teaching nowadays...)

ok, it's boxing day and everyone else is going gaga over the 3 month old grandchild, who can't even hold a coherent conversation about depth of field in prime lenses....

lol about your grand child. I took the day off, had a terrible Christmas dinner--ended up in a fight with my cousin about the fact that my wife and I homeschool our daughter--now everyone's asleep, I'm at peace and pursing what I love!

Great videos by the way, but I don't understand what you mean when you say you sold 750, 1500 and 800....what do these numbers represent? What are you selling and to whom?

That's great that you can pick and choose your own rate--what a dream come true. It's also wonderful for people like me that you're a full time member on this board offering your experience and wisdom for free!

I'm actually in university in education at the moment, but my real love in life has always been music and art, and I'm hoping to be able to one day drop out of university and do video for money! I figure if I work as hard at video as I do in school I have just as good a chance of making in in video as I do as a teacher--if not better.

Below is a link to on my songs to give you an idea of what I've been doing over the years, and why I've been a member on Sony forums for so long but not been in the video forum.

I wrote, produced, sang and played all the parts on this song. Although I still love music, video is really where my heart is at these days because it's such a blend of everything I love.

Here's the link for the song, sorry I still haven't figure out how to post a real, actual link yet (I promise I'll figure it out soon!)

you're not old enough to be absent minded yet. link?

they were sales figures. just to prove you don't necessarily have to be producing / shooting / editing for other people all your life. just find a niche market and fill it! of course, there's a great many who want to do features, after working in features at the start of my career there's nothing less i'd want to do ;-)

as for selling them - i simply put ad's in the related mag's, wrote 'press releases' to the local papers and bingo, the orders started coming in. i kept all the address from the first release, mailed out a flier, ditto for the next. it was so simple i never understood why i hadn't thought of doing something like it before. (probably cause i hadn't seen anything worth filming?)

there's nothing wrong with home schooling as long as it covers ALL bases (probably better than a lot of state edu. nowadays). and, not wanting to tip-toe, you're not teaching creationism, intelligent design, etc.,

i envy you your music (that is, without having heard it yet!), it's a talent i wish i'd had. to be able to cover all bases in a creative field is such a godsend...

anyway, link please?

Apparently, I am old enough to be absent minded! < ---I have a talent from trying to do too many things at once which only gets worse when it's past 12am. I fixed the blank link and posted where it should be.
I have some more questions about your work actually, but given the time and my dwindling sanity I'll save them for tomorrow.

very good!!! enjoyed listening to it.

your tomorrow is already here ;-)

I basically have been doing "trip video". Once upon a time, when I was young, I trained for and worked in film -- left it all behind about 30 years ago but since retirement I've gotten back to my roots doing "trip videos" of our travels. Love using Vegas. Still stunned at all you can do these days as a "one man band". We took a World Cruise in 2008. I did 44 episodes of the journey. Apropos of Australia, Leslie, here's a link to one of those episodes in and about Brisbane.

Brisbane - runs about 10 min

Something I did a while ago.

http://vimeo.com/2635558

Shot with one camera, most of the post done in Vegas, a bit in After Effects. Best thing was being behind the organ keyboard with the pipes overhead. Client still owes me the chance to reshoot his doco about the world's largest pipe organ.

Funny I'm the opposite...video production is my bread and butter and music is my passion I'm seeking (especially now that my kids are old enough to work with).
The song is very cool, what software do you use (I just upgraded to Sonar X1) and what strings did you use (or are they real)?
Thanks,
Randy

Hi Randy,
That's cool that we share similar passions. I imagine many of us on these forums have this in common.
I used reason for the strings actually. The only two pieces of software I use are reason, for most of my programming, and acid for all my cutting, sampling and mixing.
What I love about music and video actually is how much both art forms share in common. Although on the surface they appear very different, when you get under the hood and work with wave forms, be it sound or light, the whole process is the same. Music and video also share many other properties like the importance of structure, flow, and rhythm.
I've actually produced hundreds of songs that I've never done any thing with. Hopefully this year I'll be able to make a few music videos of my own tunes.

Man that is some kind of zoom on your camera at 00:00:31
Seriously, how did you go about doing that? Is it all just using track motion in Vegas?
Thanks,
Randy
liquid wrote on 12/26/2010, 8:07 AM
I noticed the crazy zoom too.....My guess is you used your optical zoom as well as digital zoom on a tripod to minimize artifacts...?

I really mistook you guys when you said trip videos. I thought you guys were referring to tripping out videos, as in on acid or something:-) But now I get it...:-)

Now when you say Concept, Photography, Editing, do you mean physical painting as in with a brush and those are your paintings in the demo?

This is a link to my documentary short film "Inside the Cage" about amateur mixed martial arts. Its a little long at 26 minutes, but its probably my best work. I shot it with Canon HV30s and edited entirely within Vegas.
