Snapping

Hi,

I have an issue with snapping with VP 16 (build 424) working with windows 10 - 64 bits.. I have this problem since I own the app. I've been using Vegas products since version 6 in 2005. 1) Lets says for example I place a 1 sec. fade in on the video part of a clip. I want to add the same fade on the audio and it will not snap when it reaches the I sec. mark on the video. 2) Let's say I have a time line with pictures on it, on the last picture I have a 1 sec. fade out. Two time lines below I have a video clip with a 1 sec. fade in at the beginning of it. I must drag the video time line so they both snap when they are aligned...they don't.

I reinstalled my app. many times to no avail.

Haelp will be appreciated here...thank you.

Place the cursor at the end of the video fade and Vegas will snap to that point when you fade your audio.

Hi John,

I do that all the time. But isn't the fade on the audio line supposed to snap when it reaches the end (vertical line) of the fade on the video line?

Ok, if we take your example and you don't install yourself that vertical line, will the audio fade snap and the same place where you would have put that vertical line? Hope you get me?...hahaha!

Thanks for that John.

I don't think the audio fades have ever snapped. Probably because they are not frame based. You can select audio and video and fade them both at the same time which then will snap.

Yes Dot you a right with that.

The answer from @Former user is correct.

I'm happy to have the audio blissfully unaware of the frame boundaries in the video. Snapping to the cursor is fine for me.

Techno/Philosophical Question:

How much difference will there be in the loudness if the the fade misses the frame boundary by a few samples?

Hi John,

For some weird reason, I thought that the snapping function was better than that. Perception or wishful thinking?

So I see from Dot and yourself that it was clearly wishful thinking.

I think I found the problem solver. I installed my copy of Movie Studio Platinum 15 on my PC. The problem is the same as the one I'm describing with VP 16. So if I'm having the same results with one app. vs. the other then there is no problem! I also installed it on my wife's PC just to be sure that what appears to be an error is in fact the way snapping woks. So I'll live with it.

But it would be a good idea if the Snapping function would be more than what it actually is.

Hope the the Magix engineers will read this?

Thank you John

Michel
