Snapping Media After Changing Framerate

Rayof2k wrote on 9/7/2014, 9:57 AM
I started a project at 29.970 FPS and noticed ghosting because all of the project's media is at 30 FPS. I changed the project settings to 30 FPS to match the media's FPS, but now all my media is slightly misaligned with the project's timeline. Is there a way to snap all the timeline media to the nearest frame all at once, or will I be forced to snap every cut to the nearest frame in the timeline? It's a big project and I don't have time before my deadline to re align every cut. Please help!

I think there is a script for that.

You need to import your media into a project that already matches the frame rate. Snapping does not auto-correct after changing the project settings, nor does the media frame rate.

Tried that already. The new project had the same problem. I'm a junior compositor who is usually head of animation so I don't know much about the program yet. Can you send me a link to this script, if there is one, and I will be most grateful.

Doesn't Gary James' Timeline Tools offer this?

Download Timeline Tools (it is free) and it has a Quantize To Frames option to fix frame boundaries.

Be sure and let Gary know. It is a great free tool.

One more question. Can I reopen the files in the same version of Vegas without Gary James' Timeline Tools. I will be handing these off to somebody else.

Yeah, after you save the project, the changes are saved. No interaction with the timeline tools.

While we're on this subject here is an internal preference that I find absolutely invaluable for this stuff. It highlights unqantized boundaries in red. Hold <SHIFT> while opening "Options > Preferences" to get the goodies on the "Internal" tab. But note that the official line is that you shouldn't touch that stuff.

+1 to Nick Hope. I use that in all my versions of Vegas.

BTW, after running the timeline tools script, you should be aware that while the edges of the events will have been trimmed to now be on project frame boundaries, you might get into a situation where the event will "wrap," thus repeating the first or last frame. I'm not sure about timeline tools, but I do know that other scripts which quantize frames don't check for this. It also may be possible that you will get a blank from where some events b-u-t-t together (have to spell that out because the forum's profanity filter deletes that word).
