Somehow managed to mute all video tracks, and can't unmute?

fr0sty wrote on 3/18/2019, 8:29 PM

I'm not sure what I managed to do, but I've never had it happen in all my decades of using Vegas. I was editing a Mardi Gras parade in multicam mode. I finished my edit, went to expand back to multiple tracks, and somehow along the way all the video tracks got muted, but thing is, they aren't muted, neither at the event nor track level... though if you look on the timeline, the tracks are darkened as if they're all muted. I've checked every track to make sure nothing is solo'ed, no dice. Here's a video of what it's doing

Have tried: Saving and rebooting Vegas.

Creating a new video track and adding generated media.

Nothing.

Have you used the Trimmer lately?

fr0sty wrote on 3/18/2019, 8:44 PM

Can't say I have... I went straight from multicam back to the timeline. You can see the trimmer tab isn't selected in the preview window.

Here's the project file... you shouldn't need the source media, as it even does it when I drop vegas generated media into a new track, so just leave the media offline.

Still doesn't work... I even tried copying the video and audio clips into another instance of vegas running a blank project.

Reset Vegas to its out-of-the-box defaults?

@fr0sty - Presently I can only Repro as per @john_dennis suggestion for Video Bus Muting:

MUTE ON:

MUTE OFF:

I'm running VP16.

Very odd that a NEW instance would keep this type of MUTE carried-over? For you, that should NOT happen, I've just checked that too and the MUTE is not ON. Interesting.

Dimitrios wrote on 3/19/2019, 1:16 AM

I opened it in V16 and for me only the bottom track was muted. Have you tried selecting and copying the affected files unto a newly created track? (Edit: Yes you have tried that)

"Very odd that a NEW instance would keep this type of MUTE carried-over?"

The state of the Split Screen View persists through a restart of Vegas Pro.

The state of a muted Video Bus Track is saved in the Vegas Project but doesn't persist for other projects.

@john_dennis - But IF this is what IS happening with our chum @fr0sty ("I even tried copying the video and audio clips into another instance of vegas running a blank project.") then this IS unexpected behaviour and that's what I find interesting or perplexing.

@john_dennisBTW, why bring up another control, Split Screen View? How is this relevant? Willing to learn here.😉

"BTW, why bring up another control, Split Screen View?"

I brought it up earlier, but there are lots of ways to mess it up. It stays in effect with Vegas which is one of the symptoms.

fr0sty wrote on 3/19/2019, 3:05 AM

It ended up being all of Vegas that didn't work right, the preview didn't work even if I started a new project and loaded unrelated media. I re-installed Vegas, nothing. Uninstalled every plugin I have and re-installed Vegas, nothing. I did a factory setting reset of Vegas by holding ctrl+shift and booting Vegas, that worked.

@fr0sty - Truly glad you’ve got a result. But I think it wasn’t just your one remedy, Factory Reset, that did it. Uninstalling and reinstalling might just have made the FR available. Also there could still be some overhead that’s been momentarily corralled by doing your FR. Do keep us informed as to progress, and I’m truly glad you’re up and running again. 😀
