Something very strange

Salah wrote on 6/19/2024, 4:17 PM

In the picture you can see two of the same projects , the one at the bottom was created first, and the one at the top was created by copying everything [ ctrl+c > Ctrl+v ] from the former. As you can see, the one up top has different render choices than the one on the bottom. Which is strange because the projects have the same files. What's stranger is that the project to the top [ with more choices for rendering ] doesn't pop up an error when rendering the GPU [ in the picture ] and on this projection on the bottom it pops up this error.

Anyone know why this is the case? Why does the one have more render choices than the other ?

I will add that the number of frames 29 and 59 do not matter

Exporting and importing preferences doesn't change anything.

@Salah Copying from one to the other only copies the events not the project properties so you are going to get different render options if the two projects have different settings.

No idea what that error msg means. what is the cxvxcv.mp4 file, where is that file, how did you create it if it's in the orig project?

Yes I know, but:
- the files are the same,
- project on time line the same [ one file, no effects ].
- "Project properties" the same
- "Project preferences" [ Exporting and importing ] same

So where should I look for differences yet? This difference is the key to the occurrence of this error.

Gid, this file name does not matter, I pasted a picture from an earlier post showing this error.

Project properties aren't the same, look at the frame rate.

Systems:

Desktop

AMD Ryzen 7 1800x 8 core 16 thread at stock speed

64GB 3000mhz DDR4

Geforce RTX 3090

Windows 10

Laptop:

ASUS Zenbook Pro Duo 32GB (9980HK CPU, RTX 2060 GPU, dual 4K touch screens, main one OLED HDR)

Gid wrote on 6/19/2024, 5:28 PM

@Salah  They may have the same files but the Project properties aren't the same, one is 29.97 the other is 59.94,

You also have Filters On in the render options..?

Turn off the filter as it will limit which render options you can see as the frame rates are different. The error I don't know about- do you have any other ideas as to what triggers it?

mark-y wrote on 6/20/2024, 12:43 AM

I think you overthink.

Salah wrote on 6/20/2024, 12:56 AM

As I wrote at the very beginning, the number of frames does not change anything. When I switch in the one up to 59 it changes nothing or in the one down to 29. The number of frames does not matter.

If I turn off the filters, you can see that in this "broken" project there are not all possible rendering options.

I think you overthink.

In what? This is a very important problem, many people have a problem with this error and no solution has yet been found for it. I have been having this problem for a couple of months, and I can't use the GPU, which sometimes increases the render time by 3 hours.  So I ask, what does your statement bring to this topic?

RogerS wrote on 6/20/2024, 1:06 AM

Please turn off the filters and show us the rendering options so we can verify it.

If the project got corrupt or had Fx at the track level that didn't transfer over to the new project maybe that explains why one works and one doesn't (copying a timeline doesn't copy track Fx).

Have you reset VEGAS recently? Perhaps that could help as well.

Salah wrote on 6/20/2024, 1:53 AM

I think I have found the problem.

When I make a new project I add some video [ 1 file ] to it and give a render, everything is ok.

When I then save the project and turn off VEGAS and turn on the same project again, everything is ok.

When I add on a time line some transition and want to do a render, everything is ok.

BUT. When I then save the project and turn off VEGAS and turn on the same project again, I no longer have as many render options.

Do you know why it's ok before saving and not anymore after? I keep checking, maybe I can find something else.

But there is more. When I switch to the administrator account, there are all render options and no error. Totally strange!

Salah wrote on 6/20/2024, 2:27 AM

Even if I delete these transitions and the entire file from the project and insert a new file, all render options are gone, that is, GPU rendering is not possible. When I close Vegas and start it up, something somewhere is saved that no matter what you do, it is no longer possible to work properly on that project.

Gid wrote on 6/20/2024, 2:35 AM

@Salah Repeat this picture & include a picture of Preferences - File IO before saving & closing, then after reopening the project, (You say the frame rate doesn't matter but make sure before & after have the same FR otherwise it gets confusing)

& mention what you have turned on in - Filters On?

In the pictures you can see if the filters are on. I have shown previously disabled. But it doesn't matter. On these projects the options to choose from should be the same whether you turn the filter on or off. One project has fewer choices, if you look closely there is no option labeled "NVENC" but there is NVIDIA NVENC. The problem is saving the project with the transition. Before saving it works, and after saving it doesn't, but if you run from the Admin account, it works.

ps. It is no longer possible to edit my first post, but I explained everything and showed it graphically.

RogerS wrote on 6/20/2024, 6:32 AM

So the question is where are the GPU and the GPU render options going when the admin account isn't used?

No idea and haven't seen other users report this. If you reinstall VEGAS to a non-admin account does that help?

Otherwise it may be worth a support request to see if they understand what permissions need to be changed for VEGAS to fully work with the NVIDIA GPU. I also use NVIDIA GPUs but my only user accounts here are admin accounts.
