Sony doesn't recommend Vegas?

Filmy,
here's what we do and this sounds pretty wierd I know.
We get sent EDLs printed out of PP for these stills based projects. We type just the clip duration into an Access database that I wrote and it does a few calcs and spits out a Vegas txt EDL which we load into Vegas. My code lets us define a default file extension and folder to minimise the amount of typing. Works very well and pretty simple.

Now assuming the rest of the stuff that comes OUT in the Vegas EDL is usefull to someone and you knew what format it needed to be in and it's all just txt it wouldn't take much in the way of coding skills to write a VB program to convert one thing to another. Doing that is how I earn around 50% of my income.
By the way to get our Vegas EDL support running I simply reverse engineered what came out of an existing project. At the moment my stuff is cuts only but when we run the next project with it I'll look at expanding that a bit so we can define a few more parameters. I'm also going to try converting a PP EDL / project into a Vegas one.

Wow - ok - ya never spoke up when we have talked about this before. :)
Most recent was in this thread: My First Crash.

And I am too lazy to find older ones. But heck yeah - PPro to Vegas and vice versa. I am pretty sure there is a market for that out there beyond just me. :)

Well I can't promise anything, I'm off to Vegas soon for NAB and I still haven't got my brain properly around that. But I just don't get this. This isn't rocket science software for heavens sake, hells bells you might even be able to do this using VB in MS Word. What'd sure help is something from Sony describing the structure and formatting of their EDL. I got around a lot of that by cutting and pasting a line from an existing EDL as a constant into my code, hardly elegant but it works. If I had more info about the Vegas EDL would be a good starting point.
And by the way the PP EDL doesn't seem to specify file location or track # etc. It's a very basic EDL, just cuts only from what I can see. Still I can see some big potential for the Vegas EDL.

IMHO (I'm going to college for business so I have a little room to talk here, I think) It sounds just plain STUPID. SSTTUUUUUUUUPPPIIIIIDDDDDD!

Did you get to Contract Law yet? Sony assumed control Sonic Foundry's desktop software in the second half of 2003. If Sony had mutiyear contracts with other companies, those contracts would still be in effect and Sony would not have had the opportunity to replace those products with Vegas.

I tried other softwares before coming to Vegas, I only use Sony cameras and have recommended both to colleagues, friends and family.

There has to be a point where loyalty to a brand is pushed past the limit. It's not as if Sony products are at the lower or even the middle of the price range and I suspect that they now trade a fair bit on their reputation.

New Head Honcho or not loyalty is a two way street if they think that a rivals product is superior this may then apply to all Sony products just us saps don't look too far , or too closely at the specs of the competitors - until now

Your telling me with all of Sony's savvy, legal resources, and deep pockets they couldn't get out of it ? C'mon man. I cannot fathom that it would cost less for them to get out of this " potential " contract than it is for them to be in this position. No matter how you try to look at it they're slitting their own throats on every level.

Some months ago I had issues with my Sony DVD burner. Called their techsupport. Guess what, Sony's DVD support DID NOT SUPPORT DVDA !!! They told me I had to use the DVD software that came with my burner, whatever cheap software it was ( but I can tell you it wasn't Sony).

Case closed.
