Speaking for myself, I've never had any issues with VP8, going through 8.0, a, b and now c. I've downloaded, but haven't yet tried, 8.1.

However, I have no doubt there are bugs; all software has glitches, after all. I've still just been using it with DV footage, though, so I imagine that's mostly why my experience has been trouble-free. Many people seem to be experiencing these issues while trying to work with HD formats. If not by 8.0d (assuming SCS will bother with this), then I hope VP9 will solve these HD issues... probably by the time it comes out I'll have started working with HD stuff.

The only other NLE I've used is Premiere Pro CS3, and I haven't had any problems with that, either. Although it is much less intuitive, and resource-intensive than Vegas... which is why I prefer the latter. It's still nice to have both, though; and the rest of the CS3 apps.

Based on what I've seen of Avid, I probably wouldn't try it... I've never really cared for all that additional hardware to add to the software. I'd be willing to try FCP if it were available for Windows; but I like building my own systems, so I'll never go with Apple.

Some people don’t know how to complain

Attack the problem not the software or brand
Ist commend the good for eg I like this about Vegas, I feel this is great but…. With this I have an issue
Then you will get results

Everybody should be free to express their grievances but a legitimate complaint could come across as winging and actually get sideswiped

I rely on Vegas every day to earn a living and it gets the job done and then some

"I have a test project with some HDV footage, some DJ transition etc. The project uses 32 bit color space. In 8.0 through, and including version c, Vegas will crash like a Spanair flight while rendering this. Each and every time on each and every computer I have tried it on. This isn't a "perceived" problem, it is a problem."

Terje - Have you made this project available for others to test & dissect?

Then again, it could be a problem with DJ or your footage, because nothing crashes here, 8 bit or 32 bit.

Who knows where they have been ( your files ) and what kind of a disease they may have . Feed your dog a steak with bubonic plague in it and they die, not exactly their fault.

Code that fails because of the data that it's processing is simply badly written code. Software is supposed to be tested with deliberately corrupted data to ensure it passes such basic requirements. Would you accept a word processor that crashed when you made a spelling mistake?

Bob.

I've made this point before. How can transferred video cause a crash? It is an unhandled exception causing a crash. If it was a random type of gif or a jpg crashing photoshop people would got nuts.

Stack and memory handling issues.

>>>If it was a random type of gif or a jpg crashing photoshop people would got nuts<<<

Photoshop crashes a couple of times a month , and Vegas never.

So, yes, in my case Vegas is more stable than photoshop.

People have just gotten too lazy. Just because marketing department says you can mix all sorts of crap on the same timeline doesn't mean one should.

Same rules that applied 20, 30, 40 years ago, still apply today.

Keep it as simple as possible, find what works, stick with it, and never , ever hope to fix it in the mix. Always do it right the first time.

Faire enough, thats great if it doesn`t ..they might just have issues with vista 32bit or maybe its just the specs on my system.

Well mine just locked up building a sfap for a nested file. Totally random. I can not remember that happenign too many times before. 8bit mode.

My 2 cents... vegas has some issues, yes. Has it gone completely downhill since vegas 4 as it seems.... maybe not
lots of folks always wanted vegas to be mainstream.. not just used by those of us that stumbled on to it somehow. Well with an increase of thousands of users and throwing new formats at it seemingly daily... more users with more workflows more formats = more problems . Welcome to increased sales
