Sync issue of video with diferent FPS in all builds after Vegas 15.261

Alexander_VS wrote on 9/9/2018, 11:26 AM

Dear Vegas Team and All,

I have found out quite serious issue of sync between two simultaneously recorded video tracks with different FPS, it can reach up to 5 seconds per 10 minutes (!) of the timeline. In other words if you sync two video tracks, for example, in the beginning, it gets completely desynchronized already after minute or two of the timeline.

Affected builds of Vegas Pro 15 are all builds after 261 (tested on builds 311, 321) and the same problem is unfortunately also present in new Vegas 16 build 248. Latest normally working build of Vegas 15 is 261, and there is no such issue in earlier builds (tested on builds 177, 216), as well as there is no such problem in Vegas 13 and Vegas 14.

Would be much appreciated if you could look into that problem and correct it in the next release.

Thanks.

Hi All,

Regret to say that in the latest Vegas build 16.0.261 the problem persists.

Would be really much appreciated if Vegas developers team could look into the problem and check what has changed in Vegas code since build 15.0.311 causing this issue.

Vegas 13            - no sync issue
Vegas 14            - no sync issue
Vegas 15.0.177 - no sync issue
Vegas 15.0.216 - no sync issue
Vegas 15.0.261 - no sync issue
    Vegas 15.0.311 - sync issue
    Vegas 15.0.321 - sync issue
    Vegas 16.0.248 - sync issue
    Vegas 16.0.261 - sync issue

What type of media are you using and how was it recorded/created?

    Alexander_VS wrote on 10/2/2018, 3:12 AM

    Hi Nick,

Parallel recordings in 2.7k 29.97 fps on the drone and FHD 50 fps on the land (picture + telemetry). In all earlier Vegas builds mentioned above, if I synced up both videos in the beginning, after 20 minutes it has been always frame-precise synced. (Done many many times).

In the affected releases same media is getting out of sync by around 5-7 seconds (!) after 10 minutes.

Besides this, having tried to find what is causing this, I was comparing how the tracks look like on the timelines in earlier ("good") builds and affected builds: track 1 in "bad" build on timeline has exactly the same total length as track 1 in "good" build, same for another pair of tracks, but surprisingly in "bad" build track 1 and track 2 are significantly out of sync (I cannot understand how it can be).

I have been also trying to play with resample settings etc., but nothing helps.

    Thanks.

Did you compare exactly same footage, same clips in different Vegas Pro versions?

    Alexander_VS wrote on 10/2/2018, 3:33 AM

    Hi Marco,

Yes. To be more precise: I have been comparing many times exactly same sets of simultaneous footage/clips (media combinations were various, 2.7k@29.97+FHD@50, 2.7k@29.97+HD@50, FHD@50+HD@25 etc.) in all Vegas releases I mentioned.

And this problem actually is keeping me in the earlier Vegas versions (namely Vegas 15.0.261) for that kind of footage as I can hardly trust new Vegas builds from sync point of view..

Right now I have on my screen Vegas 15.0.261 (latest "good" build) and Vegas 16.0.261 running with the same pair of tracks, trying to analyze the problem and find any "sign" of the root issue.

(Noticed this problem a while ago and thus just have been staying on 15.0.261, but now new features of Vegas 16 made me to return to this problem and drop the post here).

    Thanks.

That shift you mention is that big, I wonder wether there is a relation to the new "Add as Project Frame Rate" feature which came with VP15. But while the shift you mention is huge, it isn't that much as if 24 fps would have been matched to 25 fps (or even 50 fps). It sounds like it's a shift of 1frame each 4 seconds.

Did you already try to disable So4 Compound Reader in the internal preferences?

    Alexander_VS wrote on 10/2/2018, 4:24 AM

    Hi Marco,

Just checked - in the both versions running on my screen right now all So4 setting are set to "true". I will try to play with it in Vegas 16 and see if it helps.

And yes, the shift is just huge..

    Hi Marco,

Changing "Enable So4 Compound Reader for AVC/M2TS" to FALSE resolved the issue!!

    THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

    Hi Nick,

Parallel recordings in 2.7k 29.97 fps on the drone and FHD 50 fps on the land (picture + telemetry)...

    Which cameras/drones exactly?

Would you be able to share any samples (e.g. on Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive, mega.nz, wetransfer.com or mediafire.com) for us to verify the problem on our systems and link the developers to?
