The System is low on memory

UnconditionalUser wrote on 6/23/2023, 6:44 AM

Getting a error whenever I launch Vegas pro 20 stating the system is low on memory and im not sure how to fix it, it's a fresh install and I just purchased a license for it. RAM shouldnt be an issue seeing as i have 32gb and my processor is an i713700k so I'm not entirely sure what vegas wants at this point

@UnconditionalUser Were you initially able to open VP20 prior to this occurring or have you never been able to get it to open?

RogerS wrote on 6/23/2023, 7:01 AM

It may be referring to video ram? Do you have other programs open that may be using ram or GPU vram resources?

never been able to even get it open

nope closed out everything and still no dice, running a rtx4080 as well so vram shouldnt even be a problem

Thanks for trying. I really don't know what the problem could be. Here's advice on filing an official support request: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/ask-support-updated--120281/#ca860645

It would be useful to report what Task Manager has to say about RAM in use vs free, and also same for GPU RAM.

@UnconditionalUser, at some point in the past, I too had the same "Low on Memory" error. At first, I thought that it had to do with the Windows memory management but, after a day's struggle, it turned out that the then GPU driver was causing the problem. I am not sure if you're having the same problem as mine but you might want to try changing the GPU driver to see if it solves the problem.

I have the same problem with low memory in Vegas Pro 21. I have 128GB RAM and I have no other applications open so I have much free RAM available. I have the latest drivers of Nvidia Studio. There is no newer GPU Studio driver available, because I checked it.

I tried turning off GPU processing in Preferences>Video tab, but unfortunately I didn`t solve the issue. I noticed that the problem occurs when the cursor rendering position is rendering about 20 minutes position of video. My video duration is 58 minutes, so when I get the low memory error I started rendering from about 20 minutes position and then I had another low memory error when the cursor rendering project position was also on 20 minutes position (in summary it was 40 minutes position of the whole project). Then I render last 18 minutes duration left and the 3rd part of this video finished rendering successfuly, because it was below 20 minutes. So finally I had three files: 1st one: 20 minutes long, 2nd one: 20 minutes long and third one: 18 minutes long. I am able to combine these two files into one part using ffmpeg, so there will be ok.

But I don`t know how to render whole 58 minutes long video without low memory error.

I have been using Vegas from Vegas Pro 8 (as I rememember) and I have never had that issue before.

I had the same issue despite ample video and system ram. Rendering using MagixAVC with Mainconcept worked. Are you doing a GPU encode?

marcinzm wrote on 9/19/2023, 7:48 AM

Did you have the issue in Vegas Pro 21, becuase I hadn`t had this issue in Vegas Pro 20 and earlier version either. I don`t know but maybe it is linked with Adjustment Event, but I am not sure.
I render using GPU, because I use Voukoder 12.1. I will try to install Voukoder 13 today. I have in Voukoder settings GPU enabled.

I suppose that this it the problem with Vegas Pro 21, not with GPU drivers. I installed Voukoder 13 and tried to render in two different methods: using GPU and using CPU. Both types of render throw low memory error. I noticed that exception was thrown when the position of rendering was on about 20min:50sec. This behaviour was not present in earlier version of Vegas Pro.

What else did I notice? When I have installed Voukoder 13 I noticed that rendering speed was significantly improved. Voukoder 12 was rendering the the same region of video in i.e. 2-3 hours and Voukoder 13 was rendering me 30 minutes. I don`t know if it is because of presets reset or changed after install or maybe rendering speed was improved in new version of Voukoder (13).

Do you have the same feeling that in Voukoder 13 rendering speed was improved?

Yes, with VP 21 though occasionally in the past as well. I haven't had it triggered when doing a CPU only render (x264 or MagixAVC with Mainconcept). I also thought it may be adjustment events or VSTs and tried deleting them.

I don't see a speed difference with Voukoder 13, such a big difference suggests different settings (the presets changed if I recall).

I had a bad interpretations in previous post. I have GPU enabled that's why rendering was so fast. 9/21/2023 was release new Studio Drivers for my graphics card. I will install it in a while, but I don`t have a video to test out. I can test it out after 10/7/2023 when I have a footage.

@marcinzm I only use Vegas for fast simple social media edits. I would not have made a video over 20minutes on Vegas in years. What is the simplest project I could try to get the low memory error, could it be as simple as transcoding a 1080P? 4k? video of a duration of an hour using Hardware encoding and wait for the low memory error?

It would be helpful if you give specifics

I tried the Vegas benchmark project, cut and pasted it to a bit over 40mins, would have tried an hour but Vegas kept crashing when pasting. I was able to encode the full project at 4K, no low memory error using Voukoder NVENC H.264. You could try the same see if you get an error

marcinzm wrote on 10/4/2023, 2:42 AM

@Former user

As I remember well, my project contained mostly 4K 50p (also 100p) 10bit color, h265 codec, 200 Mbps video files and maybe also files (a few ones) from GoPro9 or GoPro10 flat files (4K, 25p, h265 8-bit color).

VIdeo was trying to render to 4K 25p 8bit h265 60 Mbps output using Voukoder 12.1 with GPU enabled.

@marcinzm I tried the same modified Vegas Benchmark project. 3 of the clips were replaced with 4K HEVC 10bit. Tried rendering three times. Froze at 0.5% and 4% and 2%. Freezes can't be recovered from.

I rendered two times a project with duration more than 1 hour and everything was rendered well. There were no error during rendering. The only thing I did I install new studio drivers for Nvidia graphics card.

@marcinzm The Vegas fault I conjured is not related to GPU, The same pause on render at random spots that isn't recoverable happens when GPU processing is turned off, GPU decode off, and software encode. I was using iphone 14 10bit HEVC media as replacement files in the Vegas Benchmark Project.

I've never seen the pause/crash during render with simple transcode type renders of these files, but put it in a more complex project Vegas dies. There is no crash information because Vegas pseudo crashes, stops encoding and would still sit there for weeks not knowing anything is wrong.
