Tint of Blue

michel-plante wrote on 1/29/2024, 8:17 AM

Hi,

I've been using VP 19 for a while and after about 2-3 weeks I decided to start a new project

So I started to import just pictures on the timeline to find out, to my surprise that ALL were of a blue tint. Hum...weird. I then imported video clips with the same result. To troubleshoot, I did the same with version 20 and no surprises here, ALL media was of a normal color. So I reinstalled version 19 to find out no changes with the blue tint...??? For your info, I'm not using Version 20 because of the continuous Ticking noise at the end of the video clips on the timeline.

I then set version 19 to it's default value and again, nothing worked. I then decided in closing my GPU acceleration and it worked...ALL media are now ok but no GPU acceleration...!

Before writing this post, I did make a search on that topic on this Magic website and noticed that someone did set the default value to the app and it worked, I don't see why it shouldn't but NADA for me? I'm writing you to find out if someone would have additional insight on that matter since, like I mentioned, no bugs with or without GP acceleration with VP20. Just with VP 19...don't get it...thanks.

Michel

Is this an AMD driver issue? What GPU and driver do you have?

michel-plante wrote on 1/29/2024, 8:57 AM

Hi Roger,

My Graphics card is a G246HYL on AMD Radeon RX 6600hel and hoping this is a good info...the driver is 31.0.22017.3004.

Thanks...hoping this will help

Sounds like Radeon driver bugs again. Does reverting to driver 23.7.2 help?

michel-plante wrote on 1/30/2024, 7:43 AM

Hi Roger,

I DL the most recent driver available for me...31.0.23013.3005 and it works perfect...thanks for the info...never had that problem.

Have a great day.

Yes... I've used 23.12.1 and now on 24.1.1 with zero issues and am using a Radeon graphics card.

If media is blue things are not working perfectly.

I'll add that swapped color channel swaps have been an issue with multiple Radeon GPUs, feel free to search the forum for this. You may want to do a complete driver cleanup and reinstall of the AMD drivers or downgrade to the one I suggested as it may fix your issue. There is no VEGAS setting that can cause a blue tint.

Hi Roger,

I'll keep the info you gave me (Driver number) on hand in case of...at this point the driver I picked up a few days ago does the job...

Thanks for your help Roger...appreciate it.

Michel.

RogerS wrote on 1/31/2024, 8:29 AM

So you are saying the new driver does not have this blue tint problem? That's great as it should be solved (except for VEGAS Post which still needs the 23.7.2 version).

michel-plante wrote on 1/31/2024, 8:39 AM

Hi Roger,

I wrote on Jan. 30 that the new Driver DL from the Raedon website was working perfectly and wrote it again a few minutes ago. I'm French speaking I can understand most of what someone writes me in English but I don't understand the last phrase you just wrote '' That's great as it should be solved (except for VEGAS Post which still needs the 23.7.2 version)''.

What Vegas Post still needs the 23.7.2 version, also are you sure that that version is compatible with my driver?

Thanks for the precision.

Michel

RogerS wrote on 1/31/2024, 8:43 AM

Sorry, I found your posts confusing- it wasn't clear to me that you installed a new driver and that the new driver worked without a blue tint.

The blue tint issue should be solved with recent AMD driver versions. The release notes of VP 21.208 state that driver 23.7.2 is needed for VEGAS Post (VEGAS Effects I believe) as it has the same color channel problem as you experienced. If you don't use that software or don't see a problem, don't worry about it.

Is 23.7.2 compatible with your GPU? I believe so as the GPU was released before last July, wasn't it?

michel-plante wrote on 1/31/2024, 9:16 AM

Hi Roger,

I will get the 23.7.2 driver from Radon just in case of...

Another topic if you don't mind...I bought VP 20 a year ago. I made a few projects with it and my mind got caught a few times with a ticking sound on the playback of my videos...what was that coming out of my TV...to find out that it was a nasty annoying sound from a ticking sound at the end of clips on the timeline.

Found a way to correct that and spent a lot, I mean a lot of time, in correcting that glitch on a 200$CDN app.

Read a few posts on that matter. Am I correct in finding out that Magix has no intention in putting a patch out to all VP 19 and 20 users who are dealing with this problem? My version 19 does not have this problem and that is why I now use it. naturally I have no intention in buying version 21, why spend another 200$ when version 20 should be working perfectly?

Do you have any feedback on that matter....thanks for that Roger.

Michel

The tick at the end of clips should be fixable in VEGAS- just shorten the audio by a frame or two. I agree that it is very annoying to users who experience it. There might be workarounds like saving the audio separately as a wav file (free ShutterEncoder can do that).

My understanding is there will not be any updates to VP 19 or 20 so I don't expect the audio fix in 21 to come to those versions.

In general I think of VEGAS as a rolling beta. Bugs are continually being fixed and performance improved so you want to stay on the latest version. I think the Smartscription option makes a lot of sense as if you stop paying you can still use the program when it's done.

@michel-plante here is a screenshot of VP19 with no issues using AMD 24.1.1 driver with my AMD RX 6700XT graphics card. @RogerS is right if you are using Vegas Effects. There is that "color shift" with video.

Hi Roger,

The last comment I want to make on that matter is that I thought was a buying a ''no problem app'' when buying VP20. I spent close to 45 minutes to apply corrections cutting a frame or two on those nagging clips on my latest project that included a mix of pictures and video clips scattered here in there on a 90 minute long video. It's not my idea of quality editing. I have ben working with Vegas since version 6 in 2006 and I've seen patches being applied as soon (almost) as a bug wag found.

If you have an easy and fast method in fixing that problem Roger, I'm all ears, but at this point my only solution without spending an extra 200$ is to go back to version 19...!!!

Have a great day

Michel

The audio bug only seems to affect certain computer generated files so maybe there is a way to avoid it by converting media? Not sure as I've never experienced it.

A script may be able to automate trimming as well.

I've only seen patches for old versions when there program breaking bugs.

Updates from 20 to 21 Edit should be under 100 US when there's a sale. Keep newsfeed enabled for deals.

michel-plante wrote on 2/1/2024, 6:36 AM

Hi Roger,

I don't know where you live Roger but here in Canada, we must pay 35% more for the American price witch is $149US or $225 CDN a lot of money just for an upgrade. Visit Movie Studio Zen...that price is advertised there. I always paid those prices for my upgrades and I don't have any problem with that Roger. I usually skip two versions before getting an upgrade. I made an exception with versions 19 to 20 because I was not satisfied with version 19 like I mentioned previously. But my issue is paying fort a a fixed version (21) when a patch could be sent for 19 and 20 users would have been a good idea.

Hope you understand my point of view Roger.

Have a great day.

Michel

I understand your point of view.

I don't live in the US or Canada but watch US pricing. The in-program newsfeed (enable in preferences/ general) sometimes has special prices which are much lower- $149 is not a sale upgrade price for the Edit package, that's the regular price on the website.

Anyway it's not just one bug fix you are paying for, the entire audio engine was overhauled in 20 and that development continues in 21. It's more responsive now with the third-party VSTs I use (Izotope). I stopped using 20 for this reason now that 21 is out. The video engine is also a work in progress according to the developers, especially for people with NVIDIA GPUs which have underperformed with certain media types. Given how much is under development I recommend a subscription (or trying to stay up to date.)

Hope you have a good day too,
Roger

Hi Roger,

You know what...I would gladly pay $100US for a 21 upgrade. I'm not to familiar with the Magix website, I think you are. Can you tell me where I could (a link) go on this website and look at the special pricings for the latest upgrades...thanks for that.

Have a great one

Michel

Reyfox wrote on 2/1/2024, 3:12 PM

@michel-plante you can go down to the bottom of the VEGAS WEBSITE but the least expensive upgrade is $149 if you are looking for Perpetual. It's the US site I believe.

Hi Reyfox,

If you read Roger's last posts, he's talking about a possible low price of $100US for an upgrade. My Canadian price is then hicked to 35% because of the exchange rate with the US but I could pay $135CDN anytime for a 21 upgrade.

Have a great one Reyfox

@michel-plante At the moment there are no such offers and I haven't seen any good sales on the website this year.

I have seen good sales within VEGAS itself. If you go to options/preferences/general there is an option to get updates via the newsfeed. Keep that checked as many times when I open older versions of VEGAS it will offer a special discount to upgrade.

Other people are subscribed to VEGAS marketing emails which may also have discounts, but I don't get those myself.

This is the "deal" I see today which is for the suite (not edit) package as so has other software like Mocha VEGAS tracking and Mercalli stabilization included. I'd keep checking back!
