I have a longish quote and I want to fade out all but a couple of words in the middle. What's the best approach to achieve this? I have NewBlue pro titler 3 if it helps. Thanks.
I worked out one method. Make a copy of the media and then in Pro Titler set the opacity of the text to fade out to 0 leaving just the desired text. Then in Vegas transition one to the other. Any better ways?
I'd probably do this with two text events in Vegas, one containing the whole quote, the other just the remaining words, then crossfade from one to the other.
Just note that Vegas doesn't exactly make it easy to line them up perfectly with each other so you may need to do a little tweaking with X,Y coordinates.

There won't be any alignment problems if you snapshot the full quote to a .jpg or .png at full preview resolution. Replace the full text event with the snapshot. Edit the text that you want to delete in a photo editor using the background color to replace the unwanted text. Put the edited snapshot file back on the timeline and crossfade. Here is a project that does just that.
This type of project would be much simpler if the Titles and Text Media Generator would allow changing the text color by character instead of the whole generated clip. I suspect SCS is not interested in creating yet another word processor, though.

That sounds like a lot more effort than lining up two text events. ;)
Also, if you want the background transparent then you won't be able to use .jpg or .png, unless you also use the chroma keyer.
I used .png edited in Photoshop and I was able to get some interesting effects by changing the Compositing Mode of the track with the ,pngs by putting colors or different video underneath.

I went back and used the Sony Pro Type Titler in Vegas Pro 13 and the project was much quicker and simpler because ProType Titler allowed one to change the color of the text by character. In this case, I just copied the event and changed the color of the text I don't want to show.
