Trying to render 13 Particle Illusion instances

beaverbrook wrote on 4/12/2025, 6:17 AM

I have 13 Particle Illusion instances. It takes time to simply check all the boxes to see a preview. And when I attempt to render, it doesn't seem like it wants to, and just hangs and/or crashes after a while on 0% progress.

Is there any way to render this event?

I have a pretty good system.

Card GTX 4090

Thank you.

From your recent post history, you've had a number of posts within the past year or so about BorisFX products not rendering in Vegas Pro. Unless I've missed it, the last mention of which Vegas Pro version you are using was in January last year - which was Vegas Pro 21 (no build mentioned)

Could you please advise which version and build of Vegas Pro that you are currently using as well as the version/build of BorisFX's Particle Illusion (or BCC which includes PI) that you have.

It would be great if you added this information to your Signature so that it wouldn't need to be requested on future posts.

Also, what media are you using (a MediaInfo report would be helpful) as well advising which render template is being used.

Also, I can't update to Vegas Pro Version 22.1
It's a pain to get to the error message, but it says something like, "You need Version 22" or "You need deep learning models before you can update" or something like that.

Thanks.

Have you downloaded the Deep Learning Model? If not it might possibly be the cause of your Particle Illusion issue.

I have a rendering issue. What would "deep learning" have to do with rendering?

It has to do with being unable to update according to your post. You can download the installer for 22 right from this forum assuming you have a license for it.

According to the "About" section in Vegas Pro, I currently have version 22. But it gives me that message anyway.

I updated my signature to show my current hardware/software specs.

The newest build is 248 which came out yesterday, I'd suggest updating.

Uninstall 22 and download 22.248 and the current deep learning module from here and let me know how it goes.

There's more to this post than immediately evident.

The screengrab above shows - Mocha tracking - World & PixelChooser/Mocha on, whether that is using a preset or Mocha isn't shown but I suspect a tracked Mocha mask of some sort as a preset is static & wouldn't suite the tracked PI.

@beaverbrook your post on the Boris forum Multiple Mocha tracks?

But how would one create multiple MOCHA tracks for use within Particle Illusion?
I am assuming that I have to create multiple Particle Illusion instances?
Is that the best/only way?

I just tested this. You’re right, if you want to track multiple items for PI, you’d have to apply multiple instances of PI.

All this amounts to 13 Particle Illusion instances + 13 Mocha tracking instances (26 Mocha instances if PixelChooser is also using Mocha).

On my PC just 1 or 2 instances of Mocha slows things down, Particle illusion on it's own without Mocha slows things down at least for the first couple of plays, When using PI or Mocha I use Dynamic Ram to get fluid playback.

So expecting your 13 PI + 13/26 Mocha instances project to render without a glitch is asking a bit much.

---

PS I forgot to say, render each instance out from within PI as ProRes (choose the chequerboard on the PI preview screen before rendering) & apply those renders to your project, you don't need to delete the PI instances, just turn them off after you've rendered each from within PI & applied the ProRes render to your project, if you don't like one turn that one back on, alter it & render over the previously made ProRes file, Vegas will update the timeline, then turn that PI instance off, Render your whole project with just the ProRes & the PI instances off.

Yes, this is correct. I have a Mocha Mask within each PI instance as well.

I tried to render the individual PI instances, but I can't get a transparent channel in the render. I made the checkerboard background and also tried rending with the "Premultiplied Alpha" setting, but I just get an opaque, black background.
