Unable to render edit on Vegas Pro 21

JH26 wrote on 2/7/2024, 2:23 PM

Hello everyone,

For the past few days, I haven't been able to render my video edits.

When I click on "Render As" in Vegas Pro 21, it freezes.

I uninstalled and reinstalled it but nothing changed.

I also have Vegas Pro 20 on the same PC and I can render my video without any problem, however, I can't work on my edits in Vegas Pro 20 because it crashes after 1 minute.

What can I do?

How I troubleshoot render freezes:

1. Make sure you have the latest build of VEGAS 21 installed, which is currently 208.

2. Run the driver update utility in the help menu and install any drivers it recommends.

3. Start a blank VEGAS project, no media imported. Drop a piece of generated media from the media generator tab onto the timeline. This is just to make "Render As" in the file menu accessible. After putting some generated media on the timeline, select "Render As". Does the dialog box open properly? If so, close the Render As dialogue, and open the project you are trying to render. Click Render As again... does it still crash?

4. If so, there may be an effect in use that is causing the crash. Disable all effects on your timeline, including audio effects, then try to render it again. Does it still crash? If not, from there I start re-enabling effects one by one until I find the one causing the problem.

5. If none of that works, test it with other projects... do all projects crash, or is it just one? If It's just one, I then rebuild that project by copying and pasting the media into a new instance of VEGAS 21, and rebuilding any effects I used.

1 - 2 OK

3 - The software always crashes, even when I start a blank project and I want to render media from the media generator

I uninstalled all plugins but the problem remains.

Does a reset help? https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-how-can-i-reset-vegas-pro-to-default-settings--104646/

My VEGAS Pro 21 rendering was freezing at 100%. I did a reset and it fixed the problem after clearing the cache.

I discovered a trick for resetting. I right-click on my Start Menu's VEGAS Pro icon and it shows MORE, then Run as Administrator. If I hold down the Control and Shift keys when I select that, it goes into the VEGAS Pro reset mode. I don't need to use a Desktop Vegas Pro shortcut icon. No reinstall is needed.

I did the reset, checked the box to clear cache, but the problem remains.

Whereas on Vegas Pro 20 which is installed on the same PC I don't have this problem.

Strange. I have basically the same computer build that you have but using Win 11 Pro which should have on effect on anything. See my Signature below. I don't run as Administrator, also have VP20, 19 and 18 installed on the same computer.

Do you have the same problem with other footage? Can you supply a short sample of the problematic footage to the cloud? I'll give it a go on my computer to see if this is a "global" issue or a "you" issue.

Also, you might consider uninstalling VP21 with Revo Uninstaller Free. You can use Moderate. It will search the registry and folders that might be left over from your installation. Just make sure you look at them before deleting them. Then, go to you Magix account and download the installer from there.

I'm on Winn11 Pro too.

I will try your solution.

Ultimately it didn't work, so I reset my PC and now everything works again.

Glad to hear that all is well. A lot of times, people will blame the software without considering that M$ could be at fault.

Every couple of years, I buy a new NVME for C:, format it, and migrate everything over to a clean Windows install. Then store the "old" NVME as a backup.
