I am one of your long-time customers and have multiple active accounts with you,
having purchased several licenses over the years. Until two days ago, VEGAS Pro
22.0 was working perfectly and extracting subtitles from my files without any
issues. However, since then, this functionality has stopped working.

At first, I thought the issue was with my Windows system. To resolve this, I
completely reinstalled Windows, which took over eight hours. I also reinstalled
your software and tested it again, but the problem persists.
Please note that my Windows system is fully updated, and there are no cracked,
malicious, or unauthorized software installed.

@roy-phillips the Hub is working here where I live in Poland. Where is your location? Also, do you have M$ Edge installed? WebView2 Manager should be running if you start the Hub with 6 processes.

Sorry for my bad English. This beta version, does it overwrite the current version, as if it were any update, or does it install in parallel as another version?

@Reyfox Yes, I understand. But unfortunately, they sent me here for no reason.
So it turns out that when there is a serious problem, they look for excuses instead of solving it.

RogerS wrote on 3/19/2025, 1:12 AM

@Maziyar If others on the forum also have the same problem it helps them solve it, so I don't think anyone is looking for excuses. Can you help us with steps to replicate the issue?

Maziyar wrote on 3/19/2025, 1:23 AM

@RogerS Unfortunately, this was my experience, and I shared my truth.
I respect your opinion as well, but I think you are judging me this way because you didn’t see my repeated emails to them.

RogerS wrote on 3/19/2025, 1:52 AM

@Maziyar I'm not here to judge you or anyone else and I haven't seen the emails. All that I know is that I've had the experience of reporting issues to the VEGAS team through support and on this forum, and we've gotten many fixed.

VEGAS development and support resources are limited, so the clearer the problem is the easier to solve it. If multiple users are affected I think it becomes a greater priority.

One thing to remember is that for the beta build (243) there is no technical support via email- the first post here stated support was only via the forum. This is to keep all feedback on the beta build in the same place. If you had the same problem with 239 you could try support.

Speech to text is also important to me. I just added a 2:30 video to VP 22.243 and used speech to text. I had it analyze the media. Unlike yours it didn't stop at 30%. It completed and the text showed up in the transcript. Once it is in the transcript I can also use text based editing.

Do you think your issue is particular to using it in Arabic or with this media or does speech to text just not complete with any file?

Maziyar wrote on 3/19/2025, 2:15 AM

@RogerS Dear RogerS ;

Thank you for your response.

Before I reply, I would like to give you some context about my job and responsibilities.

I work for a small company in France that subtitles videos from different countries. We then translate and sync them accordingly.

I have been assigned to subtitle an Arabic series. Over the course of five days, I successfully subtitled the first five released episodes using VEGAS Pro 22, for which I have a licensed version.

However, when episode 6 was released, I attempted to subtitle it as I always do, based on my previous experience, but no matter what I tried, it didn’t work.

At first, I thought the issue might be with my Windows system. So, I wiped my system, performed a fresh installation of Windows, updated everything, and reinstalled all the necessary software.

In the past week, I have repeated this process more than three times. Unfortunately, not only was I unable to subtitle this particular video, but other videos in different languages also failed.

The support team asked me to delete cache files, among other things. Even though this step was unnecessary since my hard drive had already been formatted and Windows reinstalled from scratch, I still followed their instructions. However, it didn’t resolve the issue.

I have taken the time to record and send videos explaining the entire process in detail, yet each time, they respond with a short sentence, bouncing me around like a ping-pong ball to different departments. From my perspective, they neither watch the videos properly nor read my emails carefully.

Like you, I was previously able to use this software smoothly without any errors. However, this issue has now completely blocked my workflow for over a week.

Maziyar wrote on 3/19/2025, 2:19 AM

@RogerS

This video you see is one of the recordings I made from my monitor.

I have also recorded videos of other versions and sent them to them.

The version installed in this last video was suggested by the support team, and they provided me with the download link.

Cielspacing wrote on 3/19/2025, 2:56 AM

@Maziyar I was surprised to recently read somewhere at Magix pages about a time usage limit for the "supposedly unlimited" speech to text Vegas 22 functionality, that was the whole point of bringing it out of the subscription option, until then only Vegas version with that capacity...

Whereas such limitation might be reasonable in principle (note that I am not talking about the actual time allowance, another issue in itself), this condition was nowhere to be seen when I purchased the update, and since it was sold as part of a perpetual license, I was led to believe it would just function to no end.

...You might want to check if your usage has yet to hit that wall, or in fact it did!

Maziyar wrote on 3/19/2025, 3:06 AM

@Cielspacing

Thank you for your response.

I also purchased it as an unlimited license.

How can I check if I have reached this limitation?

If you have a link, I would appreciate it if you could share it with me.

RogerS wrote on 3/19/2025, 3:34 AM

Maziyar, I did watch your video and see a problem. Given your extensive usage of speech to text, I think Cielspacing might be right- you may have hit usage limits but VEGAS didn't give a clear error message.

I looked at the limits on the VEGAS product page and here's what I see:

Here's where you can check for the limits- go to the Hub tab and look at my profile. This is mine:

If you used your quota it is possible to purchase more. https://www.vegascreativesoftware.com/us/hub-services/

Personally, I'm using an external tool for speech to text now as I prefer to do it locally via my GPU as it's faster, more accurate for what I'm doing (English/Japanese) and has no usage limits.

@roy-phillips the Hub is working here where I live in Poland. Where is your location? Also, do you have M$ Edge installed? WebView2 Manager should be running if you start the Hub with 6 processes.

I solved my long-standing Hub Explorer problem by doing a complete "Reset to defaults" (Shift+Ctrl then double click VP icon) then electing to clear the cache. I wasn't aware of this feature until late yesterday and it was something the Help Desk hadn't suggested. I just stumbled on it on YouTube. I've returned to Build 239 now, as I'm in the middle of a big job, but might reinstall the Beta when it's finished. Thanks for your response, Roy

RogerS wrote on 3/19/2025, 6:35 AM

@Maziyar I have never done this before (I have high quotas with the subscription), but is there a place to enter it on the same VEGAS Hub window under "redeem voucher" in the top right?

Maziyar wrote on 3/19/2025, 6:39 AM

@RogerS

Yes, I found it, and it's working well.

Except that it wasn’t supposed to be a paid service, but now it is. I just wish the support team had told me this last week instead of wasting so much of my time.

Anyway, my dear friend, I sincerely appreciate your help in following up and answering my question.

Dexcon wrote on 3/19/2025, 7:02 AM

@Maziyar  ... just a bit of background.

Text-to-Speech and Speech-to-Text is provided by a 3rd party provider (Microsoft Azure as I understand) and each use incurs a cost to MAGIX/VEGAS. With the Vegas subscription model, access to Vegas and therefore speech-to-text (and v-v) is only available while the subscription is active (i.e. being paid) because there is an ongoing cost to maintain the subscription. However, with the perpetual license model, endless access to speech-to-text (and v-v) could very possibly be uneconomic to MAGIX/VEGAS because somebody with a perpetual license might use that version for, say, 10 years extensively using speech-to-text (or v-v) and end up causing Microsoft Azure costs to MAGIX/VEGAS out-weighing any profit margin on the original sale of that Vegas Pro version. Clearly, not a great business case.

As shown earlier by RogerS, the usage limits of Speech-to-Text and v-v is given on Vegas Pro's product webpage - but it would be helpful (to say the least) if a warning in Vegas Pro was given when the usage limit had been reached. I'm surprised that such advice is not there.

@Dexcon

hank you for your explanation.

Friends, do you have any suggestions on how I can reduce these costs a bit?
For example, could I use my own AI-powered API instead?

RogerS wrote on 3/19/2025, 8:59 AM

@Maziyar I shared a link to transcription software which runs on your own computer instead. You can try OpenAi Whisper directly through VEGAS using Auto Captions or do it completely for free by using it through Subtitle Edit and then exporting a srt file for use in VEGAS. If you have an NVIDIA GPU it's extremely fast. If not your CPU will work hard.

Why support didn't figure out you hit usage limits is strange. Until recently only subscription users got access to speech to text but then they expanded it to everyone (which I think is great!) but with strict usage limits.

VEGASDerek wrote on 3/19/2025, 10:00 AM

I will fully admit that the in-app messaging (or lack thereof) is not good. We will look to remedy this in the future.
