Upgrade Pro 10 to 11? Asking for trouble

WayneM wrote on 6/12/2012, 7:42 PM
I got another email promo to upgrade Vegas Pro 10 to 11. Last I checked Sony had fowled up stabilization and I saw too many problems.

I would be running this on Windows 7 Pro 64-bit with a pretty hefty system. But if VP11 continues to have poorer/damaged features and the only thing it does fast is crash I can't see leaving 10.

The thought of migrating to Premier kinda disgusts me in terms of learning curve and especially loyalty to the original "Sonic Foundry" products and team. But if the Sony tools are sub-standard for quality and reliability we aren't being given a choice.

Have they got it in shape yet, or did they drop the ball like they did with the SoundForge 9 to 10 "upgrade?"

Sounds like you've been reading a lot about v11 so it should be obvious that some are having problems and some are not. As far as the 'learning curve' for Premiere Pro... I guess that depends on your knowledge of NLE's. I can switch between Premiere, FCP, Avid, & Vegas without a hitch. Of the three, Vegas seems to be the odd ball in its way of doing things. The others are classic NLE's.

Suggestion:
Download the v11 Trial. That will give you 30days to see how it runs on your box.

RE: trial

The current upgrade special ($132.97) is only good 'till the end of June.

If you have a good image backup solution download the trial. If you decide not to upgrade, restore the image of your stable version 10 system and move on.

If your system specs are up to date, you will be missing GPU render assist until you purchase a video card.

I did the "upgrade" to SV11 yesterday and as of this morning it's crashed 17 times. My system is top of the line so I know it's not my hardware. What gives guys? I've been a Sony Vegas Pro user sense version 7, but this has to stop. I waited until June to upgrade so all the bugs could be worked out, what gives?
So needless to say, I either have to go back to SV10 or Premier Pro to finish my current projects...... Get it right guys, these crashes cause me time and money!!!!

I'm assuming now you're just a spammer.

re:Wayne

Do the suggestion of downloading the trial. If you're doing a typical project in 10 (or whatever version you're using), save a copy of that & run it in 11, doing everything you would do. This is how I test out the new versions. There's always some kinks (ie I went from 8 to 10 and there's a keyframe bug, but I figured out how to avoid it for the most part), people always have issues (11 seems to have more issues then most but I'm on XP so I don't know), so ALWAYS run the trial through.

You've got two solid weeks and three days, treat it like a car in a demolition derby and then decide on the last day. :)

I agree with Happy....get the trial and see how it works.

And if you open VP10 projects in 11, make sure you save them as 11 files. Which is to say, don't over-write your original files...save a new version for 11. That way, if you have to roll back, you'll still have a safe version to go back to (remember, version 11 doesn't open in 10).

Yes at least try the trial version as stated above. I have had nothing but trouble with veg 11. They have not fixed all the problems either so if you want to wait? I am sure they will send another upgrade out again in the future. Good luck.

Sorry guys, I posted this twice.

It's the reliability and the fact that I found Vegas pretty intuitive in operation in the early versions. It just seems to be drifting into being less cohesive in the way it functions (best I can explain it) as if the team approach to the product has broken down.

I don't think I will try the trial as the idea of uninstall and/or image restore isn't pleasant. I'll wait until the next major project and try one of the alternative NLEs.

Thanks to all for the experience and comments.

I love the demo derby analogy. . .but I think I'll stick to V 10 and monitor the Forum. Schedule has been too out of control recently.
