Upgrading RAM, can I even use it

I built a new PC, using a Z97 MB with 32GB max RAM, 4790K, and I have 8GB of Dominator RAM now and using Win 7 home premium.

I'm looking to go to 32GB of RAM, upgrading to WIN 10, and using Trident X 2400 DDR3 RAM in 4x8 GB configuration.

I currently have Pro 10, will Pro 10 use this much RAM or do I need a newer version? Also, will Pro10 run on Win 10?

Many thanks.

First, I assume that you are using Windows 7 64-bit and not 32-bit because you have 8GB of memory and 32-bit only addresses 4GB. With that said...

If you are looking to take advantage of the free Windows 10 upgrade this won't work out for you. Currently you have Win 7 Home Premium which will only address 16GB memory max. If you upgrade to Windows 10 for free, you will get Windows 10 Home Premium which also only addresses 16Gb of memory max. If you want to use all 32GB of memory, you will need to purchase a retail license of Windows 10 Pro.

Vegas Pro 10 came in both 32-bit and 64-bit versions. Vegas Pro 10 64-bit can address all of the memory that your OS can address. Vegas Pro 10 32-bit can only address 2GB of memory.

It is not "officially" supported. Vegas Pro 10 supports Microsoft® Windows® XP 32-bit SP3, Windows Vista® 32-bit or 64-bit SP2, or Windows 7 32-bit or 64-bit. So Windows 8.0, 8.1 and 10.0 are not supported.

Will it work? In general it should. Obviously if something doesn't work you are on your own but I have found older versions of Vegas Pro to work well on newer OS's. I'm sure someone here who is actually using Vegas Pro 10 on Windows 10 will give you their feedback. I'm still using Windows 7 64-bit and have no plans of upgrading.

@jr

If you upgrade to Windows 10 for free, you will get Windows 10 Home Premium which also only addresses 16Gb of memory max.

I believe you're mistaken here. If you do an online search on the Microsoft forums, the consensus seems to be 128 GB is the max for Win 10 Home.

Well waddaya' know... I AM mistaken! They changed this back in Windows 8 (which I never used). Very nice. You can now use 128GB with the Home edition. Thanks for catching that Wayne!

So Windows 7 Home Premium is 16GB limit, but Windows 8 & 10 Home are 128GB. Sweet!!!

Thanks for the replies...gave me a scare for a moment. Yes I do have Win 7 64 sorry about that so I will definitely upgrade.

Seems like I may need to get some updated software soon, with regards to upgrading from Pro 10 looking to render 2K dashcam footage...which version should I use or will Pro 10 be enough? I do see 2K as a template but not for a final render or am I missing something?

Also, this dashcam records in 1080p, 30 or 60 fps so will Pro 10 render 1080p @60 fps? I don't want to get too far off topic but only in regards to which version suits these requirements.

Many thanks.

You should be able to create a custom render template in Vegas Pro 10 using the Sony AVC/MVC encoder. You could also render to an intermediate and encode in another encoder such as Handbrake.

I would, I did, upgrade to Vegas Pro 13.
